Pulling up into the schools parking lot and following Esrae and Lola out of the car, I stand in awe of the magnificent building in front of me. It had turrets at each end and it walls were a glistening white, there were huge arched stained glass windows, with pictures of angels and saints. The roof was silvery golden colour with red and green gems glowing in the sunlight. Lion statues are perched on either side of the doorway and I have a very strong urge to stroke the one on the left that has surprisingly vivid purple eyes.
Following this urge, I slowly walk up to it and stretch my hand out in front of me and stop just in front of it wide stone jaw. Astonishingly it brings its giant head down to sniff my hand, it then lays it down so it's surprisingly soft mane on my hand and I slowly stroke it, trying not to startle the gentle beast. I smile and sit down on the gravel still stroking the giant stone lions mane. My head shoots up at the sound of a gasp.
Standing in front of me is a slim women with white blonde hair and shocking silver eyes. She was looking down at me in astonishment.
"How do you do that?" she asked tilting her head to the side, I had no idea what she was talking about as I wasn't doing anything spectacular and I told her that. "How do you get Lylac to be calm for you? Normally she doesn't respond to anyone, if anything she's normally aggressive."
"This little sweetheart, she's adorable." I respond looking down at the purring animal resting its head in my lap. "She's not aggressive at all. No your not, just need a little attention's all." I cooed to the beautiful beast in my lap. She just purred louder and I chuckled.
"Well I'm your tour guide, Isobel and I need to take you on, well on a tour. But first the great hall and then your room."
"Oh. OK" I pat Lylac's head and stand. Once I'm sure shes back on her feet and in her place I follow Isobel into the giant building in front of me. The grand foyer was sky blue with plush forest green carpet. She explained to me that all rooms were in the west wing and that I was to be sharing a dormitory with somebody. Everywhere I looked people rushed around making noise. They all seemed to be in a rush to get somewhere and though it would seem unorganised, I could tell that they were gathering at the entrance of one room. "Come on now." Isobel ushered me in the direction of the crowd. "Wouldn't want you to be late to your own introduction assembly now would we?"
Her question seemed to be more directed towards herself than to me and so I didn't answer but instead followed behind her. When we finally entered the room, we made our way to a raised platform at the centre of every bodies attention and I was shoved into a very comfortable plush red seat behind a pretty silver stick. Dr. Young made his way onto the platform and I wondered how he had made it to the school so quickly.
"Welcome back students" His voice called for everyone's attention and the noise in the hall was hushed. "Firstly I would like to congratulate you all on surviving long enough to be before me today. As we all know this school has a long and well-known history such as...." I couldn't help but zone out of his speech as I could smell something more wonderfully appealing than ice-cream; such a sweet smell I hadn't yet been introduced to until then, I turned my head slightly to the side. my nose tilted towards the scent until my eyes caught it. Large and enticing. A dark brown substance bubbled from it. A fountain radiating blissful dark energy.
"What's that?" I seemed to have interrupted something important as he suddenly stopped talking and along with the rest of the hall stared at me open mouthed as I pointed towards the tempting fountain. A slight smile crested his face as he turned his attention to me fully ignoring the crowd of people that seemed to be worried about something.
"That, My dear child, would be a Chocolate fountain. Have a taste if you would like, there are cups to the side however I would suggest that you have it with a strawberry and try not to interrupt me again." Although his tone seemed fatherly there was an underlying warning that made me cautious to actually approach the fountain; however I did not hesitate for long and soon he and the students were once again a forgotten memory.
We Weren't allowed many sweet things in the hospital and I had no memory of previously encountering the wonderful taste of pure, melt in my mouth, sweetness. It had quite a bitterly, sweet taste to it and reminded me almost of something earthy and fresh. My attention was only taken from the fountain of deliciousness by somebody clearing their throat behind me; I turned around with a sheepish smile remembering that this, assembly, was supposed to be my introduction to the school. I looked to see Dr Young motioning me back to the front of the stage and away from the love of my life. I did a quick swipe of my face to get off any excess chocolate and slowly made my way towards him. "Introduce yourself." He whispered to me and stepped back away from the really pretty silver stick he was using to make his voice loud.
"Hi, my Name is Eleanor, I'm 17 years old and for the past 11 years of my life I've been locked in a fluffy white room in a straight jacket." Everybody looks shocked and I turn to the Doctor to see what I did wrong, a worried look settling on my brow. "Did I do bad?"
"No no, of course not, How about you follow Isobel to your room and I'll finish up here OK. Find me when you've finished your tour." the reassuring look on his face pacified me and I turned to find Isobel waiting patiently glancing down at a large book in her hands, similar to the one that the Doctors wrote in when they were examining me.
"Lets go shall we." With an unnaturally cheery smile and a nod towards Dr Young she turned and led me out of a door to the right of the stage, close to where she had been standing.
