Going through the motions,
There are people to be obeyed.
They say I must listen
And give me rules that I can't break.

But I'm going through the motions
A good girl, I must remain.
Going through the motions,
I've pasted on a smile.
If people think I'm happy
They'll linger for some time.

Oh, how I want them.
So I'll go through the motions
For a little while.

There are people I want to please.
To my lonely locked up heart,
They're the ones who've got the keys.
Oh, how I love them.
Oh, I really do.
So I go through the motions,
It's not a very big fee.
Going through the motions,
There are a few that can see
Past the rules and fake smiles
Their love for me is free.
Oh, they're the ones
I live my life for.
I don't have to go through the motions
They love me for me.
