She blinks away the tears
They don't need to know she's hurting.
While she's acting calm and cool,
Her wounded heart is burning.
The numbing will start soon
She won't feel a thing.
She'll go about like she used to
She won't let herself think.
About what caused all the hurt,
The ache that she feels.
She'll shake her head and pretend
That none of it is real.
She'll wallow for a while
Then she'll kick herself.
She'll put on a happy mask.
But she'll never ask for help.
She lies through her teeth,
No one knows that she's in pain.
She's used to pretending
Every day's the same.
