Jaki, Scott and I crept through the side door of the hall. Some crying from the outside seemed to have drawn out the majority of the zombies. We crept inside and saw the chairs thrown haphazardly around the room. Zombies were in corners of the room feeding on what looked like adults. I guess the students became zombies and feasted on their parents… gruesome. I gripped my sword tightly as he went onto the stage and into one of the back rooms. It was empty.
“Damn… so it’s not here,” Jaki exclaimed.
“I guess that leaves the library and the principal’s office… fuck,” I stated. The library was really far and the principal’s office was most likely swarming with zombies. It wasn’t looking good at all.
“We’re closer to the office…” Scott told us.
“He’s right,” Jaki told me. I sighed.
“We need someone to check the library then,” I said. “You have your cell Jaki?”
“If I had my cell, I would’ve called for help eons ago,” He said bluntly. I glared at him.
“What do you want?” Scott asked.
“To relay a message to Hyo and the others,” I responded. Scott nodded.
“I can go,” He told me. “Are they still by the physics lab? I can go and meet you guys by the office.”
“Are you sure?” Jaki asked.
“No problem,” Scott told him.
“Well good luck,” I said. He ran out of the room quickly. I looked at Jaki. “Time to head to the office.” We readied out swords and left the room.
The girls huddled together ducking as zombies passed outside. They had broke into the canteen’s kitchen and were now hiding out, waiting for everything to end.
“What are we going to do?” Meika asked. Dana and Christas shrugged. Thani was in a corner comforting Rayne as she cried and Ria was playing with a knife she found next to her.
“I don’t think moping around is going to help,” She said darkly. “The guys are out there fighting and we’re in here acting like bitches.”
“We’re alive… that’s what counts,” Thani stated.
“But for how much longer?” Ria asked. “Only a matter of time before they find us in here too.”
“Enough, Ria,” Christas spat. “We can’t do anything until we at least have a plan. Otherwise we might as well be sacrificing ourselves." Ria was quiet after that. Rayne sniffled an Thani looked down at her.
“It’s going to be fine,” She said softly. “We’re safe.”
“Nianny’s still dead,” She sobbed. Thani lowered her head. She then had an idea.
“Hey, I know what can cheer everyone up,” She stated. She got up. “Since we’re already in the kitchen, we can make some cookies.”
“How will that help anything?” Ria asked.
“Who doesn’t like cookies?” Thani asked.
“Take a guess,” Dana mumbled. Ria shot her a dirty glance which Dana promptly returned.
“Well let’s get baking!” Thani exclaimed, fishing around for ingredients.
I wiped the blood off of my sword and I left the hall with Jaki. I glanced back at the pile of headless zombies behind us. We weren’t free yet though. As we left the hall we could already see the siege of zombies between us and the principal’s office. I tightened my grip on the sword and looked at Jaki. He looked at me and nodded. We both charged forward and started attacking the zombies. Luckily for us, the zombies kept getting into each other’s way so it made it hard for them to attack. Unfortunately for us, zombies were coming from upstairs and surrounding us.
“At least we die fighting,” I told Jaki.
“No better way to die brother,” He said. We both smiled and charged the zombies only to be cut off by rapid gunfire. We looked around and saw Steven and Babs, with a shotgun and rifle respectively, laying waste to any and all zombies in their way. Jaki and I stood back as torrents of blood splattered over the walls and floor as the army of zombies crumbled.
“You guys saved…” Jaki started.
“Talk later,” Steven told us and started tugging us in the direction of the armory.
“No, we gotta look for the generator that’s powering the electric fence around the school,” I told them.
“Well it’s not in there,” Babs responded. “We came out of there not too long ago. Now let’s go before more come back.”
We all ran around the corner in front of the canteen and into the armory. Inside the armory we saw they had the place filled with guns. Jaki immediately dropped his katana and picked up a rifle and started inspecting it. Steven took it from him.
“You’re not trained,” He said shortly. Jaki pouted.
“So I guess you guys are set for any infiltrations,” I said. Babs scoffed.
“ Please. Nothing is getting into this armory,” He said.
“Hey guys!” Scott’s voice came from right behind Babs and Babs looked at him with shock.
“How the fuck did you get in here?” He asked. “The door was locked.”
“Really?” Scott asked. “I just pushed it.”
“Did you find the others?” Jaki asked. Scott nodded.
“They’re on their way to the library,” He responded.
“Good,” I said. “We can stay here tonight and hope for the best.”
“GODDAMMIT!” Bob exclaimed. “Why the library had to be so fucking far?”
The four of them were walking the walkway toward the library. Behind them was the smoke from the zombie bodies. Hyo sighed.
“Stop complaining, we’re almost there,” He stated. Rasa looked around.
“Zombies coming across the pasture,” He warned.
“RUN!” Hyo exclaimed. They tore down the walkway and past the music room. Three zombies jumped from the roof and held onto Rasa pulling him down.
“Dammit!” Hyo exclaimed as Rasa’s pained screams followed them. “Keep going! We’re almost there.” They ran faster and burst through the library door. They locked it quickly and exhaled in relief.
“Crap… Rasa’s dead,” D’mitri said.
“And I guess this isn’t the best time to mention… we left Jamie unconscious in the physics lab,” Bob said. They looked at him.
“Oh… shit…” Hyo stated.
“Let’s just look for this generator thing,” D’mitri said. They walked into the main lobby of the library and sure enough, there was a machine there. But it wasn’t on. “What the…”
“I shut it off a while ago,” A voice stated. They turned around and saw Lopez sitting reading a book.
“Lopez!” Bob exclaimed.
“You shut it down?” Hyo asked. “Then why’s the gate still on?”
“It seems to have a backup generator,” He replied. “And it seems Vera has it with him.”
“So we’re trapped here,” D’mitri stated. Lopez nodded.
“Fuck!” Hyo exclaimed. “We gotta get back to the main building. We need to regroup and find a way out of this.”
“How?” Bob asked. “We’ve only got a few cocktails left.”
“Jaki and Zak may be able to help us,” Hyo replied.
“Well let’s go then,” Lopez said. “They might be out only hope right now.”
