Chapter Four: pack hunt

The wind tangles in my fur, Cody runs side by side me and I fly across fallen logs, bushes and tree stumps. Toby and Jay are up front, Hunter and Jet are behind us and Jaze, Jay and Emmy are all around us.

I let out a bark, my tongue flips and out I run with it out. I can taste the plants as we rush by them, intent on one location. We turn in sync and run up and over the vast hill to a place where it was all soft and grassy and it made me feel at home and we all just sit.

I sigh and lay down, Cody lays with me and we watch the moon, which will be full in a weeks time. Cody looks over to Toby and they share a smile, Toby sits and we wait for the unknown.

Just as I'm about to go home, Toby let's out a howl of joy and I see why, a herd of deer trot lazily in the field below.

My wolf fixes onto them ad the pack move in for the kill. Cody, me, Jaze and Jet take the left while Toby, hunter, Emmy, Jay and Kay take the right.

We circle the herd and find a limp deer, his leg looks broke and we know we can catch it.

Hunter and Jaze break off and attack, me and Cody stay near the side and the rest pull down the deer. we watch as the pack make the kill.

Cody nudges me and we get up, as we walk to the kill, my stomach growls and find myself running, I only notice Cody when we reach the kill, I look at him with pleading eyes and he rips into the meat, blood drips from his mouth as he sets the meat down in front of me.

I look at him then lay down on my belly, I sniff the meat then let the wolf take over. I eat all of the meat in seconds and Cody gets me some more. After my sixth helping I get up and walk blindly to the side, waiting for the others.

I sit and wait, I hear a foot crunch and tense. Toby let's out a warning bark, I jump up and bite, hoping it was a hunters flesh, I'm satisfied when I hear a scream.

I hear lots of other footsteps and then fighting breaks out around me. Cody runs to my side and let's me see. I run with him into the woods, once we are far away from the fight, he starts to lick me, I realise my side is bleeding and I let him help me.

We wait for what seems like hours but must have been minutes, Cody's head snaps up and hunters surround us. "Give us the girl and you can live" One says.

He snarls and the hunters attack, I mange to sense where they are and I fight back. Cody bumps me and I see the hunters, there are lots of them and I know we are fighting a lost cause, just as I give up I hear Toby's howls telling us they are coming.

We fight endless amounts of hunters and the pack come to help us, I yelp as a bullet hits my back leg.

Cody comes back and stays with me, I realise what the emotions I'm feeling are towards him and I gasp.

Ever since I meet him, I feel like he was my world and if he wasn't there I wouldn't be able to breath, it's like he's my air. My soulmate I think to myself. !y wolf growls mate and I know we are meant to be together.

I watch as Cody curls around me, shielding me from stray bullets. He whines and I bark. He wants us to get back to the house. after finally an hour of fighting they kill the last of the hunters.

Toby barks and we head home as fast as we can, making sure no one is in our woods. I watch as Toby checks every hiding place, he wags his tail every time he does not find anything.

I yawn and stretch, most of the pack are falling asleep and Toby barks again and we set off home.

We get to the garden and we all sit, Toby goes to the door and scratches it, Toby's mum pops her head out, then unlocks the door.

We all pile in and head for our rooms, once in and Cody are in our room, I phrase, I shiver at the loss of my fur then resent what they did to me.

I sigh and get into my bed, "night baby" Cody grumbles.

"Night, did you feel it?" I ask hoping he knows what I'm talking about.

"Yes, I want more then anything to curl up next to you, but-----"

"You can, I'm not going to stop you" I cut in before he can say the rest.

I hear a shuffle and then Cody's arms wrap around me, I sigh and turn so I'm facing him.

"Night" I say again.

He kisses my neck and says "I hope we can make something of this, I can't stop these feelings. Night baby I'll be here where you wake up"

I nod against his chest and drift into a dreamless sleep.
