Every person that was transferred here was given a certain amount of time before starting therapy. The doctors wanted to get a better insight of each person, figuring out who would be best for working with them, and what their personality was like. Today was finally my start, and I wasn't thrilled about it. I was alright with just hanging around, but that wasn't what they brought me here for, I knew that. I was allowed a few more minutes before being sent off down the hall, and Finn looked oddly nervous for me. He was fiddling with his hands and constantly glancing up at me, and then back down at the floor.
"Hey, what's the matter? You've never looked this concerned about... anything before."
He bit the inside of his cheek, and looked back towards the floor. "It's just... you're going down the hall where my room is, at the moment. I don't like the idea of other people going down there, they might end up like me."
I tilted my head and gave him a reassuring glance. "Don't worry, Peyton and Monica have been down there loads of times, they've both come back safe. I'll be fine."
He nodded, trying to convince himself I was right. "Yeah, okay. Got it, I don't know why I overreacted." Finn was always terrible at accepting himself, and his feelings, but I didn't blame him, he must be confused about so much that I couldn't understand.
"It's okay, you weren't overreacting, I get why you would have been worried. Could you do me a favor and keep an eye on Lydia while I'm in session, if she's not with somebody else?" I asked.
He looked confused on why I would ask him of all people. "Oh. I can do that, I think she's with Monica right now, so if she has somewhere to be, I can watch her."
Lydia had grown on me like a little sister, I absolutely adored her. I felt like I had known her all my life, like she was what my family had been missing. I was an only child, and the house was pretty lonely, which was why I went out with my friends so much, being with people my age was like a release into the real world. My dad said I was growing up too fast, and I was always out of his sight, he wanted me to stay home more to get to know me as I aged. I did my best, but after the explosion, I wish I gave him more time. Both him and Mom. If Lydia was running around the house being the ray of sunshine she is, everything would be so much brighter. So I took her as my responsibility, though I really didn't need to, it felt right.
"Thanks, it means a lot." Once I finished talking, a doctor came around the corner of the hallway, and started looking around the room until she spotted me. She had blonde hair that fell down to her shoulders, and really thin bangs that I could hardly even see. There was a name tag pinned onto her coat, though I couldn't read it from this distance. She seemed nice enough, but I had an iffy feeling about everyone here that wasn't under twenty five. Peyton and Monica were both twenty now, they were going to college before they ended up here, though they really didn't act like college students. They were harmless people too, neither one of them would cause any harm with their abilities. These doctors had taken our freedom, and I had every right to be iffy about each and every one of them. I just had to put on the act of an understanding, yet clueless girl, so I could figure out more than they wanted me to.
"Hallie, I'll be seeing you now." she spoke softly, to not catch the attention of anyone else in the room. I got on my feet and turned to Finn one more time. He still looked anxious, but just a little bit. He was still adjusting to the whole feelings thing, and was making decent progress. I couldn't do much more before walking towards the doctor, keeping my eyes on her name tag the whole time, waiting until I was close enough to get a clear view. It read Callaghan in thin letters. I realized I looked all too serious, and met her eyes with a smile I had mastered. I used this when I didn't trust someone, and it seemed to work alright.
