I didn't know what was down that hallway, and never really bothered to check, but I had never seen this guy before until now, if I had, I would have remembered him. He had the longest hair I had ever seen on a boy before, and it was ridiculously choppy, I was guessing he had cut it on impulse or something. But the thing that really caught my eye was how white it was. Not blonde, white. Nobody's hair was naturally that color, it must have taken several rounds of bleach to get it into that state. I was almost convinced he was a skeleton when I first saw him, his cheekbones poked through his face, and the uniform he was wearing was far too big for his small frame. Something must have happened to him, and I was filled to the brim with questions. It had been a few days since I arrived at the facility, and I was assuming that he was new since he was getting a few occasional stares from the other kids. Peyton and Monica were just as confused as everyone else, they thought he was a walking corpse or something. I would never say that, but they weren't exactly wrong. I left Lydia with the both of them before approaching him, wondering how he would respond to me. He was just staring out the window, like he had never seen the outside before. He didn't even notice I was there for a second, he was really lost in thought. His eyes were a pale, dull green, like they had been clouded over. He really did look dead. When he finally saw me, consciousness seeped back into him, and he turned in my direction. He didn't say anything though, I think he was at a loss for words. I leaned against the windowsill, trying to gesture that I didn't mean any harm. "You new here?" I asked to start things off.
He paused, and shook his head softly. "No, I've been here for a while now, just down that hallway." he eyed the path he came from, and then back at me.
"So you've been alone all this time? What's back there anyway?" I guessed that it was hard spending a selected amount of time by yourself, but he must have been okay with it, since he looked really calm, almost too calm.
"I have a room back there. I've been there ever since they escorted me here about three weeks ago. There's nobody else over there aside from a few doctors." I knew he had never come out here before, so he spent three weeks in a room by himself? That must have been horrible.
"Weren't you lonely?"
He thought to himself, contemplating his answer, though it should have been obvious. He was difficult to read, but I found him interesting, I constantly wanted to know more about him. "I suppose. But that's why I'm here now. I'm finally allowed to see people."
He was happy about it, that was good. I just didn't know why he had such a lack of emotions, it made me think he had been confined for too long. This place really did make me sick to my stomach.
"So, I hope you're feeling better now."
He gazed towards the window again, the same fog shrouding over his eyes. "I'm not sure how I feel at the moment. I'm trying to figure that out." He was really messed up, like he had gone completely numb.
"Gotcha. Sorry you're confused about all of that." he turned back to me again, his interest coming back as soon as it faded.
"Oh, don't worry. See, I don't remember anything about my life before I arrived here. It's a mystery even to the doctors." Well that, I didn't expect. If this was a case of amnesia, it must be awful since he claimed to have no memories whatsoever. "I didn't even remember my name before they told me. They said it might have been a result of my ability, since I didn't come in here without a fight apparently. I wish something would come back to me, but it's all just..." he saw the concern on my face. "static."
It would make more sense if it did come from his ability, I had never heard a case of memory loss that was this bad before. "What is your ability, then?"
He shrugged. "I don't know. They're still trying to figure it out, but it's much more dangerous than the other abilities, which is why I was contained. They didn't want me hurting anybody, even though I don't know what my own ability is in the first place."
