"So, you play tennis huh?" You asked L, walking at his pace to the tennis court where he was soon to meet Light. You took notice of L wearing shoes, which may have been the first time you've seen him in some. L tucked his hands in his pocket, walking in a slouched position as he stole a few glances at you. Even though he was investigating Light, he also wanted to know more about the mysterious detective beside him.
"I was the British junior champion at one point." L answered, fixing his gaze on you.
"Well, well, this should be interesting then." You mused, poking a straw inside the juice box you got from another student.
"Ryumi," L called, taking this opportunity to get to know you better, receiving a hum from you as you took a sip of your drink. "Have you ever played any sports before?"
"Karate and Parkour I took on as a hobby." You answered, looking up in thought and admiring the colors of the sky. "I also had to play an alias that was a cheerleader, which was quite dreadful."
"I take it you don't like sports most girls do?"
"Eh, it's not that. More of the fact the teams were toxic, and I had to befriend a student who had obsessions with multiple coaches whose families and classmates had a close connection with the men who she targeted." You explained, unconsciously sliding closer to L as you tried to avoid the incoming group of students. Your arms briefly brushed for a moment which went unnoticed to you.
"I think I heard of that case before. The Confession Killer from 1998, was it? I only know the title and a few details."
"Yeah. It was a devastating case to the public. Six children, four women, and two students died. Two more students went missing around that time, and four of the men she obsessed over was found mutilated in her basement."
The mention of the gruesome act didn't trigger a reaction from the two of you, which wasn't surprising coming from two famous detectives. Working many homicide cases gave you the full scope on the most horrific crime scenes, and you had front-row seats. There wasn't anything you weren't used to seeing.
"If I recall, the murders took place for over two years." L stated, thinking back to the case he narrowly heard much about.
"Approximately... I was called on a year into the investigation." You explained, noticing L walked a bit closer to you than before. "What made the case so difficult was that those murders occurred in four different schools, and every description of the unsub was different." You breathed, focusing back on the conversation at hand.
"How did you find them?"
"The lip gloss found on the first victim's lips matched an unreleased product from a well-known brand, so anyone who had access to it became a suspect." Taking another sip from your juice box, your eyes met L's once again. "The owner of the brand had a son, but there wasn't much evidence on him either." You shrugged.
