Blaze hadn't commented once about Mathias's death. He never let on how upset he was. He'd been watching Kylie all night, due to Slick's orders. He was in a bad mood for the passed couple of days, and it was starting to drive Kylie up a wall.
Kylie still had no idea what Slick's plans were for her. In an odd way she trusted him. She wasn't sure if that made her a fool.
"Is there something wrong with you?" Kylie asked, watching Blaze. He just began to dump half a ketchup bottle on his macaroni and cheese. Kylie couldn't believe she was seeing something so disgusting. She fake gagged.
"No, why?" Blaze said, stirring his food.
"Because no sane person would put ketchup on Mac and cheese."
"This is how I always eat it," Blaze shrugged. "You sound like Slick. He always gets on my ass about my eating habits."
"For the first time in history he seems to be right about something."
Blaze smirked to himself. He was in a better mood tonight than he had been, surprisingly.
"Where's Slick been?" Kylie asked.
"He's been cleaning out Mathias's office. He's also been taking phone calls and all that fun stuff, basically just letting people know what happened."
"Is he alright?"
Blaze nodded, "he's holding everything together well. He always does. At this point I think he feels obligated to."
"Did Mathias have a family or anyone to truly mourn him?"
"I'm not sure if he had a wife or any of that. I guess Slick would know. They were always the closest. Mathias never told me stuff like that; it was too much of a liability."
"So, Slick was like his adopted kid?"
"Yeah. He'd have to be for Mathias to give him his crew. The rules for most crews is when the leader dies or steps down then their kid takes over. Slick isn't his kid, but he did find him young."
"He found him?"
"Yes. Now, that's all I'm telling you," Blaze chuckled. "Anything else the new boss man will have to disclose."
Kylie twirled her necklace, and stared out at the pool. She wanted to go see him. Her feelings for Slick were growing, and it scared her. He seemed to get close and then pull away. She also wanted to know who her father was. She never cared much until it seemed like her background was completely erased. What if it wasn't him that did it though? No, it had to be. She had a gut feeling. What if she didn't like what she found? She was brought out of her thoughts by Slick opening the patio doors. He had on an all black outfit. His hair was pushed out of his face. He looked gorgeous.
"Sup, boss?" Blaze said. Slick smirked slightly and sat down.
"I wanna go to that storage facility," he said.
"I thought you said it wasn't on your territory."
"It isn't, but we could sneak in. I'm honestly not sure why I'm bothering. Mathias was the one who wanted to know about your past; in case you were a spy or something. I know you're not."
"I'd still like to know. We should follow through with what we started," Kylie said.
Slick nodded, "I agree... it'll just be us two. It's less conspicuous that way. I'm gonna get the car ready."
"You sure you don't want me to come? If something happens you'll need back up," Blaze said.
"Nothing will happen. We won't be gone long," he winked at Kylie and nodded for her to follow him.
The car ride was comfortable. It was surprising nice outside. Slick had the windows down. It was nice to just feel free again- no obligations and no issues.
"You look happy," Slick said.
"I feel content," Kylie smiled. "At least at this moment."
"I understand, believe me."
Slick took a sudden turn off the highway. They were clearly not on Slick's territory anymore. The town began to look a little cleaner. Almost on the verge of gentrification.
"How is this side of the city so much nicer?"
"A couple of rich assholes got together and upped the rent. All the ones who couldn't pay came to my side. All those starbucks drinking, dog walking yuppies moved in," Slick said.
"This doesn't look like enemy territory."
"That's the point. The cops don't come snooping around than."
Kylie decided not to ask anymore. They were pulling up to a somewhat run down storage facility. Her heart was in her throat. What if she found something she didn't like? Slick pulled in around back. There was less chance of anyone seeing them that way.
"Put this on," Slick handed her an oversized hoodie. "Keep the hood up until I tell you."
Kylie nodded. She slipped the hoodie on and followed Slick out of the car. He also pulled his hoodie up. He was scanning the entire area. It appeared no one was around. That was until Slick nodded to the security cameras. She followed Slick till he stopped at one of the units.
"Here it is," he said. He pulled out a long metal wire and stuck it in the lock. He maneuvered it around slightly, and the door popped open.
Slick smirked, "like magic."
"Is that what they call breaking and entering now?" Kylie said.
He chuckled, and lifted the door. He flipped the light switch on, and gasped.
"What?" Kylie said and pushed him out of the way. Her eyes bulged when she saw. The entire room was filled with jewelry. It was lined up on each wall, and even laying in boxes on the floor. There were also some paintings laid across the floor. A mountain of dust was left behind. No one had been here for some time.
"It's all real," Slick said. He picked up a necklace and looked closely. The diamonds reflecting off the light. Kylie scanned the room until her eyes landed on a certain necklace. It was in a small glass enclosure- completely separated from the rest.  She gasped, picking the jewelry up.
"What's wrong?" Slick asked.
Kylie dug her necklace out from under her shirt, "I have the same necklace. My mom gave it to me."
