It took longer than expected to receive the name of the FBI agent who might have encountered Kira. All agents withdrew immediately from Japan. From the little he could find out, all twelve agents were currently under constant surveillance with the FBI watching and waiting with bated breath, seeing whether any of their agents will suddenly die of a heart attack. The FBI has fully withdrawn from the investigation and to protect their agents. Director Freddi Guntair at first refused to give L the name of the FBI agent, sprouting how it would be a risk to his agents if his name got out. It didn't stop L from trying, even though he was 90% sure he could successfully guess which agent encounters Kira – Raye Penber. The agent stopped sending any information about the Yagami family and specifically Light Yagami. Watari kept pushing whilst L continued with his investigation. The director finally relented, giving L the name, but refused to hand over any information Agent Penber may have told them about Kira. The FBI was protecting their agent. It didn't matter whether L's the world's greatest detective; they would not help his investigation any further, but that didn't matter. L had a name; he knew which families Raye Penber was surveying. He suspected which member of the Yagami household could be Kira; all he needed now was the evidence to prove it.
"We may have a lead in finding Kira. FBI agent Raye Penber believes he may have encountered Kira during one of his surveillance; with this information, Kira may be among the family members of two individuals he investigated. It may be a slim chance, but I find it pertinent to place wiretaps and surveillance cameras in both households," L explained. His eyes not once leaving his computer screen as he waited for a message from Watari to confirm whether he had successfully gotten the equipment he needed.
"Very well. Who are these two individuals he was investigating?" Chief Yagami asked.
L said nothing for a moment. Briefly considering whether he should temporarily remove Chief Yagami from the task force until it is clear whether Light Yagami is or isn't Kira. Still, reluctantly L knew he couldn't lose Yagami or else the other task force member may no longer work with him. Their partnership is fragile, and Chief Yagami is the link holding it all together. At this stage in the investigation, L can't lose more capable police officers, or he'll be stuck with the likes of Matsuda for the rest of the investigation. With that decided, L looked at Chief Yagami and said, "Deputy Director Kitamura, along with Detective Superintendent Yagami and their families."
Light knew something was wrong the second he stepped through his front door after returning from Naomi's. He'd been spending most of his time there, working away on his Kira investigation, trying desperately to locate the real Kira and clear his name. He'd still be there working away if Naomi hadn't mentioned how suspicious it would be if Light suddenly started staying out. Something happened in his previous timeline, which led L to believe and later convict Light of being Kira. Suppose Light withdraws from his family and keeps disappearing. In that case, it may tip L off earlier and Kira will get away scot-free again.
Light dropped his school bag onto the floor beside his desk and flopped down face first on his bed; he couldn't shake the feeling that he's being watched. The hair on his neck stood up on end; the Shinigami king had warned him that L was on his case. Does that mean L is watching him right now? During his interrogation, the computerised voice L spoke through had said that L has been watching him for a while and whilst he showed no signs of acting as Kira at home, Light could easily have known about L's surveillance and committed his Kira killings when he left the house. Could this be the surveillance L spoke of? If so, how long is it until L is convinced Light is Kira, and he's carted off to his death again?
He felt sick; L and Kira were making his life a nightmare. Every waking moment led closer and closer to his death; it was like it was inevitable. Is he destined to die, so Kira can live? The Shinigami King wouldn't send him back if he didn't couldn't stop Kira, but no matter how much he changes, he still brought to L's attention? Events are running differently now; the FBI agents didn't die, Naomi didn't die. Does that mean everything will happen faster? Light always assumed Raye Penber's death led to L's suspicion, but now, he's not sure. Was there something he's missing, something important?
Light groaned, rolling onto his back before closing his eyes; his head hurt. Another thing he's still susceptible to – headaches. Throughout his entire life, Light always suffered from them. He had hoped that it was one thing he lost along with his breathing and ability to naturally blink. God, it's annoying to remember to blink every so often whenever he's in public or around Naomi. He's slowly gaining a long list in his notebook of what he can and can't do anymore. Light has a heartbeat and a pulse, yet he can't blink or breathe. He still needs food and sleep, but he doesn't require them as much as he used to. His bowels still work, and he can still throw up; however, he can't cry and ever since this started, it's something Light wished he could do. A way to release the pent-up emotions he experienced. To cry his pain up as tears stained his cheeks, but he couldn't for the rest of his miserable existence. He will never shed a tear for himself or a loved one.
"Light Yagami". Light groaned as he opened his eyes, he's no longer in his bedroom; instead, he's standing in front of the Shinigami King. The globe-like body suspended above him, its skull head staring down at him.
"Now what" Light snapped. His mother and sister were home; if they came to check on him and found his vacant body, it... well, Light didn't even want to think about it. He knew the risk when the Shinigami king pulled him here; he knew the consequences should someone stumble across his dead body. Light can only hope his family believe he's studying so they won't bother him.
"I've warned you that L is getting closer, and now you are a suspect; they hid cameras and wiretaps throughout your house with no blind spots. It not long now until he tries to arrest you and you will die, the original timeline re-instated, you won't get a third chance. When you die, it's over," the Shinigami King said, and Light sighed. Well, at least that confirms his suspicions, L's watching him, L's put cameras inside his house to catch him acting as Kira. "Hurry, Light Yagami, your time is running out."
