Matsuda approached his house, looking down at the unconscious man. He froze. The moonlight was now positioned so that he could see their face—an impossible face. He was pale and sickly looking, but it was still the same face, the same body, and the same everything. His chest rising and falling steadily, Matsuda positioned the back of his hand above his mouth; warm breath hit his skin. It's impossible, but everything Matsuda has dealt with in the last year was impossible. Matsuda couldn't deny what was in front of him.

Light Yagami. Alive.

Matsuda opened his front door before carefully picking Light up and carrying him inside. Light didn't move as Matsuda used his elbow to open his guest room door—not that he ever needed it. His parents didn't visit, so it's been unused since he moved here six months ago. Placing Light onto the bed, Matsuda removed his shoes, dropping them at the end of the bed.

"Light," Matsuda said. Light didn't move. What the hell was he meant to do? How the hell was Light here? He was meant to be dead. Everyone had seen him dead during his funeral - it was an open casket. So, how was he here? Why was he here? It wasn't like he and Light spoke often during the investigation; he'd usually kept to Penber, Misora and L. Now Matsuda was thinking about it; Light shouldn't even know where he lives so ignoring the whole being dead thing. How did Light get here, to his house?

Matsuda groaned, his head hurting. He couldn't deal with this alone; he needed to reach out maybe to Misora or Penber; they've got to know what to do. Plus, Light was extremely close to them; they'd want to know that Light was back, even if the details on how were a little sketchy. Matsuda pulled his phone from his jacket. He'd only connected Misora once after Light had died, but that was a year ago, and for all he knew, she wouldn't answer. It was worth a try.

"The number you have dialled has been disconnected or is no longer in service. If you have reached this message in error, please check the number and try calling back later." Matsuda hung up. So, Misora either turned off her phone or changed her number after the Kira Case was finished. Either didn't help Matsuda right now; he'd have to try later, and if not, he wasn't sure what he could do until Light woke up if Light woke up. He wouldn't know how to contact L, and Matsuda knew better than to drop this on Light's family, so he's on his own. He should speak to Aizawa about this; maybe he'll know what to do, and he'd be better suited anyway. Perhaps he could get a hold of Penber and Misora or even L.

In the sunlight, Light looked worse. His skin was shrunken with green patches, his stomach bloated, and there was a smell. God, how did Matsuda miss it last night? But then there was no smell; it was gone. Even Light's skin looked pinker than only a second prior. Was Light healing himself? Matsuda had been there when Light's hands smoked, but they'd never honestly gotten an explanation from anyone. But it was clear to him that Light wasn't a normal human anymore, which proved him right. Light had somehow escaped death and was actively healing his decomposing body.

Matsuda looked at the clock: 6.03 a.m.; he needed to be at work in fifty-seven minutes. He didn't have a choice; he didn't want to leave Light alone, but he couldn't risk calling in sick. Aizawa would know better, and if he wanted Aizawa's help, it would be easier to talk in person than over the phone. He should leave a note for Light in case he woke up. He left Light and headed to his study down the hallway; grabbing a piece of paper from his printer, Matsuda jotted down a message for Light.

Hey Light. If you wake up, please give me a call. I'm at work right now. You can use the landline; my work number is saved in the contacts.

Matsuda (we worked together on the Kira Case)

It looked stupid adding that on, but Matsuda wasn't sure what state Light would be in when he woke up. He could have temporary amnesia and not remember who he was; then again, if he didn't remember Matsuda, there was the possibility that he didn't know what the Kira Case was. He didn't have time to change it, so he grabbed the paper. Matsuda returned to Light and put it on the bedside table before leaving. Matsuda rushed around as he got dressed before ran out the door, forgetting to have breakfast for a second time.
