Ext. Outskirts of the Emerald City-late afternoon

(nearly two months later, ELPHABA and IDINA are flying on brooms)

ELPHABA

Come on Idina, I'm winning!

(she looks over her shoulder and IDINA isn't there)

Idina?

(IDINA emerges from a cloud ahead of Elphaba)

IDINA

Who's winning?

(they laugh as they land)

IDINA

(suddenly serious)

Elphaba?

ELPHABA

What is it?

IDINA

I think it's time for me to go.

ELPHABA

That was sudden. Are you sure it's time?

IDINA

I'm sure. I just have a feeling that I'm needed.

ELPHABA

If you're sure, then I have something for you.

(ELPHABA pulls out a leather bound book)

This is a book of all the spells I know. I made it in the Badlands after I gave the Grimmerie to Glinda, but now I think you should have it.

IDINA

(taking the book)

I don't know what to say. This is amazing.

ELPHABA

I also wanted to give you this.

(pulls out an emerald jeweled key on a chain)

This is a Key to Oz. It allows the wearer to travel between worlds any time they wish.

(puts the key around IDINA'S neck)

Make sure you come and visit soon.

IDINA

To quote Wicked,

So much of me

Is made of what I learned from you

You'll be with me

Like a handprint on my heart

And now whatever way our stories end

I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend

Like a ship blown from it's mooring

By a wind off the sea

Like a seed dropped by a sky bird in a distant wood

Who can say if I've been changed for the better

But because I knew you

I have been changed for good

(ELPHABA laughs)

ELPHABA

You and that musical. But I guess it's true.

(IDINA hugs her)

IDINA

I'll be back soon. Now go make sure Glinda isn't turning the Emerald City into the Pink Glitter City.

(they laugh. IDINA turns the key in the air and a glowing doorway appears)

ELPHABA

Goodbye.

(IDINA steps through the doorway and disappears)
