FINALLY, A FREE PERIOD. Lunch went by really fast. I ate with the group, but they didn't talk a lot. We were just enjoying the fresh air and sun.
It's my free period and I have no idea where to go. Stiles told me he was going to see Scott. Maybe I should go and see the soccer game. Or the Lacrosse game. I'm not sure which one.
I grabbed my backpack from my locker and slammed my locker shut. I turned around and Theo stood there.
He smiled. That smile though. The smile that makes my knees go weak.
"Hey." He said.
"Hi."
"Can we talk?" He asked.
"About what?"
He glanced away for a second then back at me. "About what happened last year."
"No." I was about to walk away, but he grabbed my wrist and pulled me back. Our faces were a few inches away from each other. I felt uncomfortable, so I took a step back and he let go my wrist.
"I just want to be on good terms. We never really talked about it." He explained.
I raised my eyebrows. "I tried to call you. I texted you on Facebook. You never replied. I don't want to talk about it right now."
He sighed. "Alright, what about tonight?"
"I can't. I'm going to the mall with one of my friends." I explained.
"After?" I shrugged. "Or what about Friday?"
I shook my head as I tried to hold back the tears. My mother was still a touchy subject that I wanted to avoid at all cost. "The funeral."
"Oh...sorry. Alright. Then tonight it is. When do you come back home?" He asked.
I let out a sigh. "I don't know, Theo. I'm not in the mood to talk about it."
"Hey Theo!" Stiles' voice called. I turned my head and saw Scott and Stiles approaching us. "Can we talk to you...privately?"
Theo glanced at me then back at them. "Sure." He looked back at me. "I will talk to you later." Ya, whatever. I watched as Scott, Stiles, and Theo walked away.
Alright, I'm not ready to talk to him. He makes me nervous and I didn't see him for a year. I let out a sigh and tried to push the thought away and made my way towards the field behind the school.
****
The bleachers were almost full.
I didn't know that a lot of people had a free period right now. I made my way towards the bleachers and sat in the second row.
I watched as a group played soccer. I could see the guy that winked at me last night. He turned his head towards the people sitting on the bleachers. I don't know if he was looking at me or not, but he smiled. I quickly glanced away. I watched as a dark-skinned young man rushed towards the bleachers.
"Hey, you are Ashley, right?" He asked out of breath. He came to sit next to me. I nodded. "Do you mind if I sit next to you?"
"No, that's fine...but you are?"
He let out a breath. "Uh, Mason. I'm one of Liam's friend."
"Oh, yeah." I said with a smile. "Stiles told me about you."
"He did?" He asked.
I nodded, "Yeah, he said you were part of his group of friends." Mason smiled proudly as he heard that. I don't know if it's because he didn't know he was part of the gang or just because he is proud to be their friend.
Mason looked at the players and grinned. "Damn." He said as one of the guys took off his shirt. "That dude is hot." I was surprised at first but then realized that he might be gay. Well, he could be trans or bisexual, it can be hard to tell sometimes. "By the way, that guy," he said, pointing to the guy that winked at me last night, "keeps staring at you."
I turned my head and Mason was right. The guy was staring back at us. He was at the Senior Scribe the other day. Lydia said that his name is Josh.
I smiled at him, "He could be staring at you." I said and winked.
His cheeks reddened, "You think?"
"Yeah, why not? Your hot."
He shrugged, "Sometimes, it's hard to know and it's scary because most people are judging when it comes to that kind of stuff."
"Well, they're stupid then. I mean, there's nothing wrong with people who aren't straight. I mean, your still you and all that." He looked at me and nodded. "I mean, if I were you, I would still try. Try to talk to him and see if he's responded to your flirting."
He smiled and nodded, "I could try that."
*********
I rushed inside the school. I talked for too long with Mason and then when the bell rang, we realized that we had ten minutes to get to our class. I've got five minutes left and I didn't go to my locker yet. I turned the corner of the hall and ran into someone. We both fell on the floor and my books fell too.
"Shit, sorry." A familiar voice said, and I looked up and saw those green eyes staring back at me.
"It's my fault," I told him. "I'm late for class." Theo helped me to grab my stuff and handed it to me.
I thanked him and walked away.
"Hey!" He called after me. I turned around. "I need your number for tonight."
"I don't have time. Just be there at eleven." I told him and he nodded.
"I don't even know where you live." He replied.
I smiled, "Then find it."
I rushed to my locker and grabbed my stuff for my history class that I have with Stiles. I did the combination for my lock then opened my locker. I quickly placed my books in it and grabbed the one for History. I slammed my locker shut and ran towards my class. A few students stared at me as I ran by. The first step I took inside the class, the bell rung indicating that we're all supposed to be in our classes by now. I let out a breath of relief.
I saw Stiles in the back of the class and made my way towards him.
"I saved you a spot." He whispered as I sat down.
I smiled, "Thanks, cousin." I looked in front of me and saw a man. On the board, it says; Mr. Yukimura. Must be his name.
I sighed. Let's begin this hell.
