Chapter One
It was a warm October evening. I was in my back yard sitting down. My head was beating hard. It felt as if an elephant was standing on it. I had been getting these headaches for about a month now. I heard my best friend Corin walk up.
"Hey Viee,"
(Viee is what she called me, even though she knew she could say my whole name.)
"You feeling ok?"
I looked up to her. She seemed blurry and her outfit look like metal, yet she was bright, like the light was just illuminating off of her. I blinked my eyes, shaking my head then looked back up, she seemed normal again.
"Uh. Yeah just feeling light headed."
I answered, God I must be going crazy or something. She looked at me closely bending down to look in my eyes.
"Viee?"
She said look nervously around then back to me.
"What?"
I asked.
"Blink your eyes again."
I gave her the are you crazy look.
"Why?"
I asked giving in to temptation.
"Just do it!"
I gave her a look before blinking my eyes.
"No, not like that. Blink them like you did before."
She said obviously frustrated with me.
"Corin, There is only one way to blink your eyes!"
I told her laughing off this weird situation.
"Listen Violet, We don't have much time."
I watched as Corin looked frantically around while pacing and rambling on and on.
".. Their coming and we have little time to prepare, Well you have little time to prepare, I've been preparing since I found out on my 17th birthday."
"Wait a second Corin."
I cut in.
"Whose coming? "
What ever this was Corin was talking about, had her scared out of her mind and to be honest it was scaring me a bit to. Corin looked up at me. Before she had a chance to answer me, my friends Chelsea, Kat, and Amy walked over.
"HAPPY 17th BIRTHDAY Violet!"
They shouted as they ran to hug me. I noticed as Corin tensed up and Amy walked by.
"So Violet, feel any different?"
Amy asked.
"Nope, I still feel the same as I felt yesterday."
I watched as Amy looked me up and down then stared into my eyes. Her eyes felt like they were cutting into my soul, reading every thought my mind processed. Maybe it was this huge headache I had but I swear I thought I could feel her inside of me. Corin walked over and placed herself right in front of me just looking at Amy.
"Come on guys! I thought you two agreed to get along for Violet's birthday!"
Chelsea said stepping in between Corin and Amy's stare war. It was Amy to make the first move.
"Your right, we did agree to that. Sorry guys."
Amy said hooking arms with Chelsea and Kat and leaving.
"That was weird."
I let out finally.
"What was?"
Corin asked keeping her eyes on Amy.
"I don't know, it just, when ever Amy was looking at me it felt like she was looking into my soul. Like reading my mind."
Corin turned and faced me.
"Don't look at me like that! I know it sounds crazy!"
I started to leave and join the others but Corin caught me by the arm.
"They will be coming for us tonight. We have to leave now!"
I jerked my arm from her.
"I think you've had too much punch Corin. No one is coming to attack us. Were in the middle of no where in Oklahoma! Who would come here to attack two 17 year old girls?"
She looked at me then to Amy.
"You don't get it yet, do you?"
I looked at her dumbfounded.
"Look I don't have time to tell you every thing. Just look at Amy and blink your eyes the way you where before!"
"Your crazy! I was just blinking my eyes like a normal person!"
"Blink them! Rapidly!"
Corin shouted. I gave her a frantic look. Corin took a breath and this time in a calm voice said
"Look at Amy, then blink your eyes fast. Its the only way you'll be able to see what I see."
I just stared at her.
"Fine!"
I said after awhile.
"But if my mother comes over here and slaps me cause she thinks I'm high, I'm so going to kill you."
I turned and faced Amy, slowly starting to blink my eyes.
