Chapter Twelve
We had made it back to the motorcycle and Corin was already putting her helmet on. I slowed my pace. My adrenaline was finally gone. My body ached, I felt like I had lifted a thousand elephants. My skin began to burn again. I lifted up my sleeve and saw that the markings were still there. It looked as if they had been burned into my arm just then instead of an hour ago.
“Corin. What is this?”
Corin turned and began walking over towards me. She picked up my arm and examined it.
“ I don't know.. I have this feeling that it means something. Like its ancient writing or something. Urgh! I hate not having all my memory! I hate having to be born again and again and have to search for it!”
She dropped my arm and slowly started her way back to the bike. Half way there Corin stopped dead in her tracks, causing me to run smack into her. I rubbed my head, already feeling the knot growing.
“Dang Corin! You made me get a freaking knot on my head! Thanks!”
I expected to get a very rude comment back but instead Corin grasped her hands around her head. Her fingers clenched her hair.
“Corin?”
I asked taking a step back away from her. Corin opened her mouth and let out a blood curdling scream.
“Corin!?! Whats going on? Are you ok?”
I said taking a step towards her slowly. She fell to her knee's gasping for air. I took another step and Corin's hand flew up signaling me to stay away. I stopped and waited never taking my eyes off of her. Slowly she started to get back up. Panting and looking totally weak. She didn't even look at me. Corin just got up and went to the bike. Putting her helmet on. I stood still unsure of what to do. Corin turned towards me once her helmet was on and just kinda stared at me. Finally it was her to break the silence.
“Well.. Lets go!”
I snapped out of my confusion face and went over to the bike and got on. We drove for hours out of Oklahoma. I had no idea where we were going all I knew was that I missed where we were from. I missed Oklahoma. Its funny really while I was younger I wanted nothing more than to leave my small town and venture out on my own. Now I want nothing more in this world than that very town and my family. I dozed off and awoke to the sound of the engine dieing.
“Wha-.. Where are we?”
“A motel. Come on I've gotta get some sleep.”
Corin answered nonchalantly. I didn't have enough strength to argue with her. So I just followed. We got a room with two beds and as soon as Corin opened the door I pushed my way past her and flopped on the first bed my body found.
“Annabel. Listen to me we don't have much time.”
“Yes Papa.”
“ Your not like other girls as I assume you know now that you have gone through your first memory. Quite incredible really to be so young and get soo much back. But that's beside the point. The point is one day you will meet the one they call Uhcanishka.”
“Whats an Uhcanishka papa?”
“ Its a person. She will be able to help you. You need to be able to find her in every cycle you can. Do not waste any time. You will always be safe with her. She is the key to solving all the problems. She will bring down the mists. Annabel she is...”
Suddenly my father was cut off by some banging on our door. He looked at me and caressed my hair.
“ I love you Annabel. Just know that. And remember what I have said.”
He embraced me for our last hug, then bent down and lifted the secret hatch hide underneath our floor. I lowered myself into it. Staring at my papa all the way up till the moment he closed the door. I knew what I had to do. I had to take off right then. I had no time to waste no time to sulk. If I waited a moment longer they would be able to sense me and they would come for me. I took off running. I ran the whole entire way until I found the door that would let me out. I opened it and took out the explosives my father had given me. Lite them then closed the hatch and took off running. I got to the forest before I heard the big “BOOM!” sound. I turned around and looked at my house for the last time tears streaming down my face.
