Finally leaving to go back home from a long evening with everyone I was more than ready to be in my bed fast asleep. I decided to ride back with Stephen and Valerie succeeding to avoid what would've been a very awkward car ride with Kol.
Dinner however, besides Kol being touchy all night, was completely fabulous. My meal was enough to send me home with a to-go box and a full stomach. I was feeling slightly tipsy from the four cocktails I had drank in the few hours we sat eating and conversing. Everything passing by out the window just looked like a blur to me, and it was starting to make my head hurt. The car was silent as Stephen didn't have any music coming through the radio and Valerie had fallen asleep five minutes after pulling out of the restaurant parking.
The lights whizzing by our car however was like nothing I had ever seen. There were so many. All the tall skyscrapers lit up from top to bottom from the offices of everyone logging in just a few more hours before going home. The electronic billboards that seemed to be just about everywhere, there were so many people out walking the streets, people going and leaving the clubs, restaurants packed with lines out the door, and just enough traffic that we weren't stop and go today but more like cruising.
"So Davina?" Stephen spoke lowly probably not wanting to wake Valerie. I took my head off of the window and moved to the middle seat. Resting my forearms on the council I leaned my head on Stephen's seat so I could hear him and whisper back.
"Yes Stephen?"
"I saw you and Kol tonight, and I just wanted to tell you that whatever you did good job."
"Whatever I did? What're you talking about?"
"I have known Kol for a few good years now. I actually met him through Freya who happened to be very good friends with Valerie. When I first met Kol he was a very dark closed off person. I hardly saw him smile and if I did it was always dealing with business. He's different Davina, and it's because of you. I'm just saying he's a powerful man, and I've never saw him smile as much as I have in the past two weeks. It makes life at home a little easier too!" he joked at the end of his explanation and I couldn't help but think over what he had said.
Was it true? I knew from Freya and from Natalie that he was always a super private person. When I had first met Kol I saw it for myself that he wasn't approachable hardly at all and if you did you better have a damn good reason. After I discovered he was a ceo of one of the biggest fashion companies was when I knew he was powerful, but I didn't know he used his power against people. What was so special about me that had changed him? A change that was noticed by other people to add.
"Davina? Did you hear me?" snapping fingers in front of my face pulled me out of my thoughts and back to conversing with Stephen who had apparently said something to me.
"No I didn't, I'm sorry what was it?"
"I was just saying that this is a good thing. Kol has never truly opened up to someone I think and I don't know why he chose you but he did. You make him happy Davina." I raised my hand to stop him from continuing on and decided to move back to my original seat against the window. Maybe what Stephen was saying was right but what if he was wrong? Should I really let my guard down and let someone in? I haven't even started my semester yet I shouldn't get wrapped up around a man.
But all I know for sure is I needed a night with the girls, but I'm not to sure I'll get one anytime soon. I smiled recognizing the familiar building that was now my home I couldn't have stepped out of the car any faster than I did. Realizing we were the last ones to arrive home I knew everyone else was already back inside. Stephen let out a muzzled grunt from behind me and I turned around to see what he was doing.
