Verity's POV
Edmund grabbed my hand dragging me out with him. He brought me back to the tree we were sitting at before the incident. We sat there in silence until Edmund spoke up.
"I just don't get how she still effects people from beyond the grave." He starts almost yelling. "Aslan killed her. He said it was done. Why can't she just go away." He lets out a frustrated sigh before continuing. "You have magic, do you have any idea why she won't go away?"
"Well... In the wizarding world there are these things called horcruxes that keep people from truly dying."
"What does a horcruxes look like."
"Unfortunately, they can be anything. The spell splits your soul so even if your physical body dies your soul stays within the object you put it in."
"Does every wizard or witch have one?"
"No, don't think anyone does."
"Why don't people have one."
"To make a horcrux you must deliberately murder someone with no remorse. Self-defense and sacrifice doesn't count."
"Oh."
"Yeah. And anyway no one is meant to live forever."
"Tell that to the White Witch."
"I'm sure she knows, though she probably doesn't care. But I'll tell you what, if we see her again, we'll remind her." We hear marching off in the distance. We stand up and stare into the woods.
"Telmarines."
"You get Peter and Lucy I'll find Susan." I run off find Susan. To no one's surprise she's practicing her archery. "Susan!"
"Verity, what's wrong?"
"Follow me."
We run up to where Caspian and his professor are, Peter, Edmund, and Lucy meet us up there. We see the Telmarine army approaching and Miraz, in full armor. Ed and I share a look, then turn back to the army knowing we need a plan fast. We make our way back into the tomb discussing our next move, but I have an idea.
"Cakes and kettledrums!"
"Hey Caspian." I whisper trying not to interrupt everyone's bickering.
"Yes Verity, what is it."
"You're a Prince surely you've studied types of wars, battles, duels, traditions, and expectations."
"Yes, but I don't see how that would help."
"Our numbers are low; we need a solution that will not only bide time but not waste lives."
"I'm all ears."
"Really Casp, oh my godric. Have Peter challenge Miraz to a duel."
"What makes you think that would work?"
"Miraz has a lot of pride in himself, and Peter looks like a schoolboy. He won't expect him to have a fighting chance. Plus, if we give him a challenge the people would expect him to accept."
"We have to hold them off until Lucy and Susan get back." I hear Peter say. I look at Caspian and give him. A nudge to speak. But before Caspian can get a word in Reepicheep speaks.
"I have a plan."
"It can't involve more bloodshed than there already is."
"I have no plan." Peter let's out a sigh, I nudge Caspian to speak again.
