Chapter 16

Verity's POV

"Wait!" I yell. They all turn around, I run to Edmund, wrap my arms around his neck and collide my lips with his. I can tell he was shocked by this but before he can do anything I pull away.

"What was that for?"

"In case I don't see you again."

"What was it like?"

"You were there."

"I-I wasn't ready for it."

"What would you have done differently?" I smile.

"I don't know... something with my lips?"

"Sounds good, let's try that next time."

"When exactly is next time?"

"I'll miss you." Lucy grabs his hand and walks through the round opening. I watched them leave and let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. I was so shocked by my own actions I didn't hear Caspian walk up behind me.

"You love him." He states matter of factly.

"Love is a strong word. But I care very deeply for him. By the way, I wouldn't be talking Mr. 'you might need to call me again.'

"Lucy told you?" I nod. "Yes, I care very deeply for her, but she will not return. I hope to see you again Verity, and I hope you and Edmund find each other in your world." He hugs her.

"Goodbye. I wish you the best, and good luck running this Kingdom."

"Thank you. I think my first task would be rebuilding Cair Paravel to its former glory."

"That's a good plan." I walk up to the opening. I stop and look at Aslan. "Will I still be falling?"

"Yes, your wand will be in your boot."

"Great." I take a deep breath and walk through. I immediately feel myself falling, I grab my wand out of my boot. "Arresto momentum!" I stop three inches from the ground then fall on my face. I hear the quidditch team rushing to check on me. James is the first one to reach me and help me up.

"Are you okay? Are you hurt? Is there-" I cut off his questions by hugging him tightly. "Not that I don't appreciate the hug but why are you hugging me?"

"I've missed you so much."

"Did you hit your head to hard?"

"Nope."

"Okay, let's take you to Madam Pomfrey." James walks me to the hospital wing holding on to me as if I would fall to the ground. We get to the hospital wing and James tells her what happened. She runs a couple tests on me, and we are currently waiting for the results. Suddenly Sirius, Remus, and Peter burst through the door.

"We heard what-" Like James was, Remus was cut off by Verity gathering the boys in a hug. He looks to James asking for an explanation. "Why is she hugging us?"

"She did the same with me after she fell."

"What do you reckon is wrong?" Peter asks still locked in the hug.

"I think she just hit her head when she got to the ground. Or maybe she saw her life flash before her eyes." Verity let's go of them.

"You all have no idea how much I missed you."

"Missed us? Are you feeling okay?" Sirius asks putting his hand up to Verity's forehead.

"I'm fine. Seriously, I promise I didn't hit my head or anything." Madam Pomfrey walks into the room.
