"So, (Y/N), I take it you reviewed today's plans?" Kunikida asked, breaking the silence while keeping his eyes on the road.
"I have, I'm really looking forward to today. Thank you for taking me," I responded with a smile.
"I'm glad you're excited. It took me quite a few days to get the plan set in stone, I had to make sure it was to your liking," he muttered with a smile.
A few days? Just how long was he planning for this?
A short drive later, we arrived at the park. He parked the car, and we started our walk together.
"Say, why did you decide to work at the agency, (Y/N)?" He asked when we stopped to look at some flowers.
I thought to myself for a second. I really don't think it's time to tell him, so I'll bluff it for now.
"I wanted a change in scenery when I moved to Yokohama. I loved my job in Hiratsuka, however, when I got laid off, that quickly changed. I didn't want to be in a classroom anymore, and I don't know why. So, I chose to work a job with you guys. A small-scale office job is really nice, especially when I have nice colleagues like you," I told him, with honesty in that last part.
He seemed a bit shocked, but he was also smiling, so I'll take that as a good thing.
"I'm glad I get to work with you. You know how to get things done, and you're very efficient in the things you do. You're also super smart, and don't take every chance during work to bother me or steal my journal," he said with a laugh at the end.
I giggled a bit, nodding my head.
"What about you, Kunikida? Why did you decide to work for the agency?"
He thought to himself for a moment before answering.
"I started working here full time two years ago, when that idiot Dazai came along. I used to work part-time teaching algebra, however since he came along work picked up and I could no longer pursue that job, so I worked here full time," he told me with a grimaced look when he mentioned Dazai.
"I see... that Dazai is really a handful, isn't he?" I asked with a laugh.
"I can never understand that guy! I've known him for two whole years and still can't crack him!" Kunikida complained, sounding super frustrated.
I couldn't help but laugh at him.
"Hey, why are you laughing? There isn't something on my face is there?" He moved his hand around his face to look for something, to no avail.
"That's not it, I just think it's so funny how much he provokes you, Kunikida," I told him while stifling another laugh.
He let out an irritated sigh and kept walking, since we only had some time left before he wanted to head out to Chinatown.
We made brief small talk during the walk, eventually ending up back at his car on our way to lunch.
"Any ideas for what you're going to get, (Y/N)?" He asked me during the ride, looking at me this time.
I swear this man's eyes hit differently when they're in the sun.
"Hmm, I'm not quite sure. I'm probably just going to decide when I get there," I replied.
"Sounds good with me," he replied, making the final turn before finding a spot to park.
We walked out of the car and stood at the gates of Chinatown.
"It's so pretty..." I gasped, taking in all the beautiful sights.
Kunikida chuckled to himself, keeping in a compliment he would have loved to give right now.
