Felix kissed the top of my head and I smiled in complete contentment. He and I had been doing so well this past month and I had no idea how we managed. Well, most of it was due to the mini-vacation we took away from the palace, but I was still shocked. There were hardly any arguments and we spent all of our time just loving one another.
Life couldn't be going any better for us. We had a plan, Felix was going to be king and I was going to be his Queen. Everything was falling into place as it should have been.
"Well, I need to go speak to my mother," Felix said as he checked his watch. My trust issues with him were practically gone, but everyone knows that they never completely leave. A tiny lingering quantity can just grow and make it all come back with one small mistake.
Speak to her about what? That is what I wanted to ask. But for the sake of the new us, I needed to let it go. I needed to also stop thinking about Julius, but it was hard. Every time Felix would discuss future plans my mind drifted to his father.
"Okay, I'll see you later," I said sweetly with a smile.
He gave me a charming smile and left the room and my smile immediately dropped.
Calm down, Xyla.
I was about to start unpacking my luggage until I remembered that I don't have to. Peeking my head out of my room I saw a servant pass by and I snapped my fingers. "You, come."
She was carrying a stack of clothes and gave me a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry your highness, I'm busy. I can come back as soon as I drop these off at the laundry."
I scoffed and opened the door completely to stand up straight in front of her. "I'm going to be your Queen in a bit over your month. I suggest that you obey me if you'd like to keep your job, peasant."
I ignored the sad look that passed her face and head my head up high. Showing weakness wasn't something that I could do. I needed to remain strong and unyielding. What would it look like if I was being sweet to the people that worked under me?
She set the clothes on the floor by my door and nodded. "Yes, yes, I'm very sorry."
"You should be," I said as I took a step back for her to come in. "I want you to unpack my clothes and put them where they should go. While you're at it just clean the entire room. Please also wear gloves before touching my things, thank you."
With a deep breath, I left my room. I looked down the hall to see a few servants walking past and when I looked to my left, I froze. Julius was down the hall speaking to one of the guards. I knew I told him off the other day, but I didn't think he'd actually stop perusing me.
I missed it...
The attention, that is.
I hadn't received one call from him the entire time I was with Felix and it was frustrating. Did he move on so quickly?
