"Yes, she is my daughter. My blood... My... My.. My everything," he whispered, "Wait. Have you met her?"

"No. I've kept my distance. Made sure whatever she needed. She got."

"But how did they find her then?"

"Because one of the council members found her, dated her for a bit, then realized what she was. They've been hunting her since she was sixteen, Zhan. I have done everything I can to keep her safe... Now there's nothing more I can do without outting myself. If I do that, she will be found and killed in front of me. Then it will be I who dies next."

"No! They can't do that! Can they?!" I gasped in shock.

"Yes they can. I broke the rules my father has set in line. By doing that, it's saying I could give two shits about the vampires at all."

"But you do!"

"Yes, I do. I have a beautiful wife. Two great children. But... I love my daughter more than any of them. Hell... I... I loved her mother. I don't have a love for my wife like that. Her mother was the best thing that ever walked into my life. She was killed shortly after Hali was born though," Adien whispered as if in pain.

"Who killed her?"

"Drunk driver.."

"Oh, so it was an accident?"

"So I was told," he snarled in anger.

"You don't believe that?"

"Hell no. There's only one person who knew I was involved with a human. I mean it's not against our laws or anything to sleep with with one or anything, but when she got pregnant. I should have killed her."

"Why didn't you?" I whispered trying not to say anything too bad.

"I... I tried. I really did. While she slept, I... I pulled a gun on her. She woke up and looked at me. She wasn't afraid. Not afraid of me or dying. She told me if killing her kept me alive... To do it." He said as a tear ran down his face.

"Wow." That's all I could manage to say. I could feel the tears stinging my eyes. She was his mate. Literally. His one and only love.

"She could've died right then. For me. I could have killed her anytime I wanted to but I couldn't do that to her. I dropped the gun, grabbed her, and cried like a baby holding onto her that night." Smiling at him, he met my eyes with such light I've never seen before.

"You really love her, didn't you?"

"Yes, I still live Hali's mother. She'll always be in my heart, just like Hali."

"Okay. So why are you telling me this Adien? You know I'm supposed to go to the council right?"

"But you won't," he said with a smile.

"What?"

"You won't do it because you have feelings for her."

"Um." I swallowed hard. Oh shit! Please don't kill me! I pleaded in my head.

"Yeah, I know you do. You do know there is a way to make her like us right? To make her a full vampire?" Adien demanded, twitching his lips into a smile.
