I hoisted Jenna up towards the window of her bedroom that was on the second floor. She wasn't supposed to be out past curfew, yet she had spent the night with me at our flat. I held Jenna's feet as she unlatched the hinges and swung the window inside before hoisting herself up. Her foot slipped a bit and she steadied herself against the window frame.
"You alright?" I called up. She peered out the window and nodded before holding a finger up to tell me to be quiet.
"You ready?" She whispered. I nodded.
"Remember the plan?" Again she nodded and placed the window back in place. I fled back to the front door and knocked. Jenna's mom answered, but she seemed more tensed then last time. She gave a fake smile and ushered me inside with a quick, loose hug around my shoulders. Jenna's dad appeared from the hallway leading to the kitchen and stood with his hands on his hips.
"Mr and Mrs Pemrickson, we need to tell you something."
"We?" Mr Pemrickson asked. Jenna came down the stairs and crossed the room to me. She laced her fingers with mine and stood pressed to my side.
"Mom, Dad, I'm pregnant." Her parents faces went white.
"What?" Jenna moved towards her parents but they stepped back.
"But he's a...." Jenna froze and I noticed a change in her posture that indicated her fear.
"But he's a vampire." Her dad finished for her mom. I took a step back, raking my hands through my hair.
"How did you know?" Jenna's voice was blunt.
"We could feel the evil radiating off him before. It was faint then, but now we can feel it emanating off him in huge waves. We can feel the death of all the humans he's killed. He's a monster Jenna. And he has fooled you like all the rest in his lifetime." Jenna's mom looked at me, disgust and hatred swirled in her eyes. Her dad took a step towards me and my hands went up instinctively.
"Sir, I'm not like what I used to be. Your daughter has changed me." I meant my words, but I could feel the anger boiling up inside me. My blood would soon begin to boil and then I wouldn't be able to control myself.
"You lie." He spat. "I can see your true side just beneath the surface now. Let it out. Show us what you really are." I clenched my fists and scrunched my eyes. His words rung over and over in my skull. I could feel Jenna's hands grab my arm.
"Stop it! Your scaring him! He hasn't meant to hurt anyone. And he won't hurt you. Your just pushing him. And he can't handle it at the moment." Her father grunted and her mother answered.
"He can't handle it! That's exactly our point. Vampires don't have control. Especially his kind that have been around for centuries. Their control is even thinner then the ones created today." I bit back a growl and turned around, hunching my shoulders. "Can you feel it? His anger is rising. I can practically see that glass wall thinning." I clenched and I clenched my fists. Jenna's hands fumbled through my pants pockets until they found my phone and tugged it out.
"Hold it. You can do it. Just until the lads get here." She whispered so only I could hear with my trained hearing. Then she dialed Liam.
"Liam get over here. Now." And then she hung up and pushed me down the hall, yelling at her parents the whole way until she pushed me into a bathroom and shut the door behind me.
"Lock the door." She instructed me from the other side. I complied before leaning my forehead against the wall, shutting out the noise Jenna and her parents were creating. It wasn't supposed to go this way. They weren't supposed to know about me. We were supposed to tell them, they were supposed to congratulate us. Then I was supposed to help Jenna pack her things and move into our flat. Why was everything so difficult to accept in my life? Or afterlife?
