Yukiko's POV

Scenario one :

At first, Yukiko didn't really like celebrating her birthday.

Of course, as a kid, who would like to remember the actual day your parents left you on the doorstep of some stranger and gave you a vague message of finding them in the future?

Not this eight year old.

Sure she loved Yaga like he was her father— rather guardian but it pains her to see her classmates celebrate their birthdays with their parents— setting birthday parties in their classroom.

Add that to the fact that no one actually remembered her birthday on her second year of elementary school.

Making her spend the whole afternoon waiting for her so called friends to greet her. Only to be met with disappointed.

They haven't even sang her a happy birthday song until she herself informed their teacher that it was her birthday that day— when their class was doing a written activity and Yukiko already finished.

She prepped her kid self up and stood up, waddling towards their teacher who sat at her table at the end of the room.

"Teacher..." She called quietly tapping on the desk to get the woman's attention "It's... My birthday today."

(Fact: This actually happened to me— the author— when I was in second grade in Elementary school.)

Ever since then, she never really liked celebrating birthdays.

Though, she's very thankful when people greet her.

And she's very thankful everytime Yaga throws a small celebration with her.

Just him, Yukiko and Panda.

The moments and celebrations with just the three of them are truly memorable.

Scenario two:

Yukiko grew to like birthdays during middle school— amidst joining the debate club.

Her first year in the club— she was baffled when the whole club decided surprised her.

She was sure she never told anyone about her birthday. Or at least— that's what she remembered.

"Jay B, Katie and Rhaf planned this for you." Said Yamada-senpai ruffling her hair.

"Happy birthday Yukiko!" Exclaimed Sato-senpai giving her junior a hug.

"Happy birthday Dazai Yukiko!" Yamazaki-senpai exclaimed in English.

Yukiko shyly thanked them all— as well as the members who proceeded to greet her as well.

She was speechless when the three of her friends stopped in front of her holding a small round cake.

"I—" she paused, unsure of what to say. "how...?" She breathed.

"I remember you mentioning your birthday when we were in third grade—" Jay B shrugged.

"When I got transferred to your class that is"
