"Honey are you absolutely sure you want to do this? it's only been six months since the accident." Emily's father said for about the sixth time. "Yes dad I'm sure this is a good way to spread my story to people who really need it." Emily replied. "Don't worry Mr. Matthews I'll take care of her." Jonah said putting his arm on her shoulder then quickly putting it down when Emily's dad gave him THE look. Emily's dad was okay with Jonah dating his daughter as long as that meant no contact. "We have to go dad tell mom that I love her and tell Andy he can't have my room I'm only gone for three weeks." Emily hugged her father. "Love you too sweety. Have fun." He turned to Jonah. "If I find a scratch on her when she gets home.." "understood Sir." Jonah replied quickly eager to get the conversation over with. Emily and Jonah sat together on the bus while straight across from them was Catherine and her newly turned Christian boyfriend Bobby.
"You guys ready for this?" Catherine asked over the racket of the other youth group members. Jonah and Emily looked at eachother and then Emily replied"As ready as I'll ever be." The youth group was going to Haiti for three weeks and would be following some missionaries. Emily had taken a month to prepare. Yes, she had told her Church her story of becoming a Christian and had readily excepted it but would the people in Haiti? "It's going to be fine." Jonah said sensing her uneasiness.Emily was greatful Jonah was on this trip, he always knew when she was upset, plus since they had started dating she had seen himm almost every day. What would it be like without hom for three weeks?
During the two hour ride to the airport Emily and Jonah talked about the trip and what they thought it was going to be like. They had talked about it before but some how it comforted both of them. By the time they got to the airport, went through security, and borded the plane Emily could have fallen asleep standing up."Hey Em we're here." Emily had fallen asleep on Jonah's shoulder. "Where?" "Boston. We're taking the plane from here to Haiti but we have to switch planes." "Okay." Emily said drowsily still not fully awake.
On the next plane Jonah and Emily weren't able to sit together but Emily ended up talking to the man next to her. "I'm so happy for you that's the best decision you could ever make!" Emily said as they were getting off the airplane. "Being your boyfrien?" Jonah said with a smile. Emily smiled back."No, I told that man my story and he exepted Christ!" "That's awesome Em! See the mission trip won't be bad you've already saved somone." Jonah said. "I didn"t save him Jonahh God did." Maybe Jonah was right though maybe the mission trip wouldn't be that bad.
