"You know you would make a great nurse." "What?"Emily asked coming out of her hundredth replay of earlier that day. There were two things engraved into her mind. One, Noah passing out and not waking up yet, and it was two hours later and two, Pedro's lifeless, defenseless body.
"I said you would be a great nurse." One of the nurses who had been sent to help said. "Oh thanks." Emily said starting to sink back into her own thoughts. "Dont." The nurse said. "Don't ask yourself the question why. If you truly believe in God like everyone has told me you do then you know as well as I do this is all part of God's plan." The nurse said gently but sternly. "People told you about me? Who?" Emily asked a little more focused. "The natives. They heard your story and they know what you did here today." "I didn't do anything it was Jonah who did something." Emily said looking down. "No Emily you took charge and you had strength where as anybody else in that posistion would've broken down and done nothing." "I'm Anna" the nurse said after a long pause.
All of the sudden Emily started asking Anna all these questions about how she could stay so calm, how she had come to know God and so on until she came to the question she couldn't hold back any longer. "How do you NOT worry?" Emily asked. "Well I do a lot but in I try my hardest not to because in Luke12:22-31 it says not to worry and it talks about the wild flowers and the birds and how they don't worry about a thing and it talks about if the flower's and the bird's worrys are taken care of how much more then ours will be taken care of." Anna said with a big smile. "Thanks that makes me fe...." "EMILY!" Catherine called running towards Emily. Catherine's face was filled with fright. " Jonah.. he.. he..." "He What Catherine?" Emily sayed trying to calm her friend while also calming herself. "Jonah... he needs you." Catherine said quickly. Emily looked at Anna and then they both ran after Catherine.
"What's going on?" Emily asked runnng into the medical tent. "The smoke that he inhaled caused him a headace which is common but now it has turned into an extreme migrane and he's at the brink of passing out and we don't know how long it would tak him to wake up or if he even would." one of the doctors said. Emily ran to Jonah's bedside. "Jonah do you hear me?" there was a groan. "Jonah don't go to sleep you hear me if you fall asleep i'll have to leave." Emily said. There was a slight grown that sounded like a "don't leave". "Alright can you open your eyes? I know it might hurt even worse but it will help keep you awake." Emily said calmly push Jonah's hair of his sweaty forhead. "I'm... I'm so tired." Jonah managed to get out. "Yeah well you know what so am I but do you see me going to sleep, no because you haven't opened your eyes." Emily said putting an almost smile on Jonah's face. He opened his eyes.
"You know what you did good in there." yet another nurse commented. "Thank you." Emily said. Ever since the had gotten Jonah's migrane to go away every nurse who had either seen or heard what had happened with Jonah had complimented Emily on how calm she had been. Also after his migrane had gone Jonah had decided to take a nap, but one he could easily be awaken from. Bobby and Catherine had volunteered to watch him so Emily could get some fresh air.
"Em!" Catherine said running up to her. Emily had a flash back to earler that day. "He's awake." Catherine said with a smile. "and requesting some alone time with a miss Emily Matthews." Catherine said her smile growing wider. Emily smiled back.
"Hey sleepy head." Emily said walking to Jonah's bedside. "Hey beautiful." Jonah said returning Emily's smile. "You know what I think I want to be a fire fighter when I grow up it gets me lots of attention." Jonah said. "You better not be." "Oh common! Don't I deserve the attention?" "Not after the stunt you pulled today." Emily said having yet another flashback. "How is he?" Jonah asked also growing serious. "huh?" Emily asked coming out of the flashback. "How is Pedro?" Jonah asked. "He's fine now well as good as you can be with a couple major burns, he may never be able to walk again." Emily said looking down.
"Hey look a me." Jonah said. He studied Emily's face. "How are you?" Jonah asked with concern in his eyes. "I'm fine." "No your not Em what's wrong?" Jonah asked again. "I'm fine." Emily said a little more sternley then she ment to. "Hey, I'm sorry I had Bobby hold you back but I couldn't risk losing you." Jonah said catching on to where the anger was coming from. "And you think I could handle losing you?" Emily asked quitly. "No, but people need to hear your story there are so many people left to tell." Jonah said putting his hand on top of Emily's.
"You know your the only reason I told people my story." Emily said scanning Jonah's face for any injuries she might have missed. "No, I didn't." Jonah said smiling. Emily and Jonah sat there, Jonah not having a choice, and talked until the doctor came andd told Emily that Jonah needed to get some sleep and so did she. They were both reluctent for Emily to leave, but the doctor was right they both needed some sleep.
