"Hey Edward, I'm sorry but we might have to cancel today's meet up at the cafe, Jake has a dentist appointment and Emma and I have to help her dad with some stuff in the basement," Sarah lies through her teeth.
We made her lie to Edward so that we can plan his Birthday.
"Ah man, today was going to be Zac's first meet up," he pouts.
"Yeah, I'm bummed out about it too," Zac says and glances at me.
We also made Jake stay at home to make the story more believable and since his parents are super nice, they understood and told him that he could stay home.
"Monday is always another day," I say and smile.
We all agreed to ignore the fact that it's his birthday on Sunday, since it wouldn't be a surprise if he knew.
"Unfortunately for us, it's not going to happen, we have that camp remember?" Edward says.
"Oh, right, next week Friday then," I shrug.
"Sunday is going to be super busy since we all have to pack," Sarah sighs.
"Yeah, senior camp is no joke," Edward chuckles awkwardly.
I could tell that he's upset that we're forgetting his Bithrday, but he'll soon be happy again when we surprise him tomorrow.
"Well, that's our cue to head to class," Zac says as the bell rings.
***
"It feels like I'm betraying Edward by being here for the first time without him," Zac frowns.
"He'll get over it," Sarah says and smiles as the waiter approaches us.
We all order our usuals and keep the conversation going as we wait for our drinks.
"I don't know Edward well and I've never really seen you guys at a party either, so I'm basically useless," Zac shrugs and locks eyes with me.
Glaring at him I shift my gaze towards Sarah and Jake thats sitting across from Zac and I.
"He likes old fashioned things and any drinks except Tequila, he has some bad experiences with that," we all chuckle and Zac just frowns.
"Edward made out with a pole and we have it on camera and he promised to never take a shot of tequila ever again," Sarah laughs.
"Oh, gosh," Zac sighs.
"That's what we all said," Jake laughs.
Suddenly Sarah's phone rings and Edward's caller ID pops up.
We all go silent and she answers hesitantly.
"Hi, Edward," she says with a wide smile on her face.
"How's the helping going?" He asks.
"Great actually," she nods, even though he can't see her.
"Oh, that's strange, because no one's home," he frown.
Sarah widens her eyes and starts to chuckle, buying time to come up with a lie.
"We needed more boxes for the basement, we might be a while so I don't think we'll be home for a while," she says.
"Oh, okay, I just wanted to talk to you, but I'll see you guys later," he says.
"Bye, see you later," she says before hanging up.
"That was close."
She lets out a breath and her eyes light up when she sees the waiter on his way with our drinks.
"I have an idea for the theme," Jake says.
"A modern 80's with a disco ball and silver decorations," he says.
"Like an Euphoria themed party?" I frown.
"Exactly, we all dress normally, but the party is decorated with things for the 80's," Jake nods.
"I love it," Sarah grins.
"I have stuff to decorate everything, even a disco ball," Jake says.
"I'll get some extra things at the store, including solo cups," Sarah shrug.
"Emma and I can organize drinks and snacks," Zac smirks and I avoid his eye contact.
"Sounds like we've got it all planned out," I add with a grin.
