How does one approach a person that deliberately ignored you for no good reason?
Hey, did you throw me out your life for a reason?
I leave out a shaky breath as I see him walk out the classroom.
I wave goodbye to Camilla and grab my stuff and shove it into my bag.
I move past the people and finally reach the exit of the classroom before searching for him.
I see him walking on his own , towards the dorms.
I rush past students and slow down, trying not to over think this.
Is this a bad idea?
"Zac," I say.
His head turns and his eyes widen.
"Emma," he whispers.
I can't find it in myself to hide my smile, but instead I give him a small one.
He looks terrible
But I see the scars on his hands are completey healed and his face has no new marks.
"I think we should talk," I finally let it out.
"I have class, I can't right no-"
"Please," I plead, taking a step forward.
He gives me a nod and we walk towards the dorms.
But instead of going to the dorms, we continue walking.
"We can just talk here," I halt.
"I had to leave and I thought that with me not being honest will just hurt you," he says.
"You could have told me, I wouldn't have judged you," I inform him.
"What do you mean, you don't know anything," he says, a frown appearing on his face.
"But I do," I reply and take out the piece of paper that was in my bag.
I hand it into him and he unfolds it.
"I do know something, it may not be everything you were hiding, but it's something," I say.
"How did you find this?"
"It probably fell out of your bag into my car, is this why you left?" I ask.
He nods and crumbles the piece of paper in his fists.
"I don't want you to think that I think less of you, I know the real Zac and I just want to know why you ran away," I mumble.
"Because I didn't want to hurt you."
"But you did, you hurt me when you left."
It stings when I say this.
"It hurt me more I can guarantee that," he says.
I don't say anything, instead I take a step foward and embrace him.
My eyes sting from holding in my tears.
His arms are hesitant, but soon wrap around my waist.
He buries his head in my neck and I feel him shake.
This is the first time he's ever been vulnerable
He tightens his arms around me and I hear him softly cry.
It breaks me seeing him like this, this damaged boy in front of me and all I can do is fall for him more and more.
"I have to tell you something," I whisper.
I don't hear a response, instead he pulls away, his eyes red and puffy and his lashes a bit wet.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry I couldn't be there for you as much as I could have," I tell him.
He lets out a small smile and whispers the words I'd never expected him to say.
"I love you."
I stay silent, refraining myself of saying it back untill he speaks further.
"But I'm scared I'll hurt you again," he says.
My heart has just been broken.
"So, I have to leave again, I was never going to finish college anyway, I just wanted to see how it's around here, but this place isn't for me," he adds.
"But, I feel the same way, about you," my voice hitches, but I ignore it.
"It's for the best, Emma."
"Why," the tears finally falling.
"Don't make this harder than it is."
He kisses my tears away and then he turns around, leaving.
I have the urge to shout his name, but my voice seems to have left.
It's for the best, Emma
I haven't moved my feet and all that's left of him is his sillouhete, slowly slipping away from my sight.
I love him, but I have to let him go.
