Comfort and Chaos

It had been exactly 3 months since Carrington's disappearance. Mackenzie couldn't deal with it anymore. Her and Bucky both, they needed Carrington. Bucky couldn't sleep, strangely. He couldn't sleep already, but when Carrington was around, he felt a sort of safe haven. He felt as if he could sleep. Mackenzie and Loki had returned to Earth, a couple weeks ago. Thor promised Mackenzie, he would return as soon as she needed his help.

Mackenzie woke up to screaming. She jumped up and ran towards the scream, she knew it was Bucky. She opened the door, and Bucky was asleep on the floor. She shook Bucky, waking him up. He had a panicked look in his eye.

"Did I wake you up?" Bucky said in between heavy breaths.

"Y-Yeah, but it's okay."

"I'm sorry..."

Mackenzie sat down next to Bucky. He pulled his knees up to his chest and looked at the ground.

"What happened?" Mackenzie asked.

"Just had a nightmare," Bucky sighed.

"Was it another one about Carrington?"

He didn't say yes, and he didn't say no, but the silence gave Mackenzie her answer.

"We'll find her James, I promise."

He looked at her with sad eyes. His heart was hurting, Mackenzie's hurt for both Carrington and Bucky.

"Can I ask you something?" Mackenzie asked.

"Yeah..."

"What's with you and Carrington?"

"I-I don't know. It's like, she understood me. She didn't really ask me any questions, she just let me talk."

"She understands you, she doesn't have to ask questions. Once you touch her, all of your past gets soaked in. She probably didn't want to bring anything up that'll upset you. She saw everything."

"Why didn't she say anything?"

"Again, she probably didn't want to bring anything up that'll upset you. She's a shy person. She likes you, Bucky. Whether you want to admit it or not, I know you like her too. I can tell."

"She doesn't like me. You don't have to lie."

"Bucky, she never wanted to lay with anyone. She feels safe around you. Don't you think that's enough to see that she likes you? Hell, she never wanted to sleep in the same bed as anyone. She always slept on the floor if she had to. She cares for you Buck," Mackenzie smiled.

Mackenzie looked over and realized Bucky fell asleep. He had something in his hand, she moved him a little bit so she could see what it was. It was Carrington's hoodie. She grabbed the blanket that was on the bed and covered him up with it. She left the room and walked to the lab. Tony, Steve and her dad were all in there, still working on trying to find Carrington.

"Hey guys," Mackenzie said walking into the lab.

They all waved at her, not taking their eyes off the screen.

"Any new updates on Carrington?"

"Yeah, actually there is," Bruce said looking at his daughter.

She walked over towards her dad and he pulled up the picture to make it bigger. She looked at it, and realized it was in Russia.

"Why the hell would Carrington be in R-Hydra..."

"Exactly," Tony said, "We're thinking she ran off, and Hydra captured her."

"We can't tell, Bucky. He'll freak out."

Mackenzie looked at the time, it was 3:54 a.m. She looked at the guys, working hard to bring her friend back. She sighed.

"I know, you guys just found where she could be, but sleep depriving yourself isn't going to help us find her. You should really get some sleep."

"Not until I get my little girl back," Tony said.

Everyone's heads snapped up and looked at Tony.

"What did you just say?" Mackenzie asked, shocked.

Tony took his glasses off and rubbed his face. He looked at the group that was in the lab.

"Carrington's my daughter. She doesn't know, because she was taken from us. Hydra stole her a couple months after she was born, then Nick took her from Hydra, saving her."

"So instead of saying something to her, you wait until she's gone?" Mackenzie started to raise her voice, "Instead of telling her, you and Pepper are her parents, you let her keep questioning everything she's known."

"It's not that easy Ma-"

"It is that easy! You could have told her when she was here!" Mackenzie yelled.

Tony, Steve and Bruce all looked at Mackenzie. Bruce walked over to her and gave her a hug.

"I think I agree with Mackenzie, I think we all need to just go to bed, we'll start this off again in the morning." Bruce said.

The group all left. Mackenzie snuck back into the lab as soon as she heard Tony's door shut. She grabbed the map and looked at the exact location where Carrington could possibly be. She took a picture of it on her phone, and ran up to her room. She shook Loki awake.

"Dear, we need Thor," Mackenzie said.

"W-Why do we need that big oaf?" Loki said still half-asleep.

"Tony thinks he might have found Carrington."

Loki got up, he went outside and yelled for Heimdall to get in touch with Thor. The Bifröst opened, and out stepped Thor.

"Good morning, Lady Mackenzie."

"Morning Thor, Tony thinks he's found Carrington."

"Ah! Lady Carrington, yes I remember her."

"We need to get her."

"What about the rest of the team?" Thor asked.

"No, just us three. They can catch up in the morning. There's a possible location of her in Russia."

Mackenzie showed Thor and Loki the picture. She ran inside and wrote a note.

Avengers,

I have left to go find Carrington. I do know the dangers of the mission, and I do know what could happen, if you do not hear from me by tomorrow morning, please come find us. If you want to join us when you awake, you're more than welcome to. We are bringing her home. -Mackenzie.

She ran back out, Thor, Loki and Mackenzie were on their way to go save Carrington.
