I couldn't stop myself from smiling, I was going to surprise Mayank. It was his birthday today, and I'd decided to be thoughtful and give him a bit of surprise. According to him, I was in Delhi and not Mumbai. He worked as support staff for the Rajasthan Royals.
I applied for the vacant spot in the support staff, my interview had been held last week. I'd been accepted, and I was pretty dang happy about it. Mayu, the nickname I gave to my boyfriend, popped up on my screen.
Shit! If he recognizes where I am, this surprise is a flop!
I decided to not pick up the phone, I ignored the call and put it on silent mode. I saw Mayu with a group of people wearing pinkish shirts. I assumed they were either player of support staff.
"Mayank!" I called out, biting back a smile, waiting for his reaction. A man who I didn't recognize turned around, he had a close-cut beard and was fresh-faced. Mayu also spotted me, he stood there with his jaw unhinged. I laughed. The other guy tilted his head curiously and watched me.
"Uhm..." I shifted on my feet awkwardly, "Not you, I meant him." I pointed at my boyfriend.
We'd been dating happily for three years, he wasn't the type of guy to cheat on you either.
"Mahi!" Mayu surged forward his hands extended, he lifted me off my feet into the air. I smiled and kissed his cheek.
"Miss me?" I sighed happily, resting in his arms.
"Who wouldn't miss their girlfriend?" Mayu retorted, and a frown was forming on the other man's face. Something clicked into play and I recognized him.
Mayank Markande,
"Well, I missed you too." I sighed happily, and I felt eyes boring into my back. I turned around and saw Mayank Markande (*cue the fangirl moment*) watching me with a smirk playing on his lips. I forced myself to look away.
