Mahi's POV

***

I never felt so lost before in my life, I stood outside Mayu's mother's home.

How was I supposed to tell her?

Gathering up my scattered courage, I made my way to the front door. Taking in deep breaths, I knocked on the door. I heard the scuffling of footsteps, and the door creaked open.

"Hello?" Mayu's mother opened the door, I smiled at her.

Mayu's mother had OCD, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. She tended to forget things and not process things as fast as the average human brain would.

"Aunty," I smiled widely, it was a very forced smile.

"Oh! My future daughter-in-law!" Aunty beamed, and my heart wrenched. I bit back the tears and knew that I had to break it to her.

"Beta," Uncle's voice came from the inside, and I waved.

"Is Mayank not with you?" Uncle frowned and folded his newspaper. I shook my head, the words died in my throat.

"Pity, we could have spoken about the wedding." Uncle smiled, and my tears threatened to escape.

"Aunty," I croaked hoarsely, knowing that I had to do it now, or I'd never have the guts to do it.

"Yes?" Aunty hummed, pouring me a cup of chai.

"Mayank... he's..." I stuttered, drawing a deep breath I promised myself.

I have to do this, for Mayu

"We were in a car crash... and he's...." I stuttered, "He's gone," I managed to whisper.

"Gone where? To the hospital?" Aunty bristled up, "Wait till I get my hands on my son, I told him he should drive carefully."

"He's.. he's dead," Tears slipped down my cheeks, and Aunty gave me an odd look.

"Arjun, come see what's wrong with Mahi." She called Uncle, who'd heard the whole thing.

"Mahi, are you joking? Or-" He stopped when he saw me crying.

"My son is not dead," Aunty's voice was eerily cold, I stood up and left. Tears streaming down my cheek by now.

"It's your fault!" Aunty screeched, understanding what had finally happened. "You're the reason my son's dead!"

"He loved you so much! Just watch! You'll be betrayed just like you betrayed him!" Aunty cursed, as I closed the door.

Uncle tried to calm her down, but I could see him hurt as well.

"My only son!" Aunty wailed from outside, and I exhaled a shaky breath.

The moment I left the house, I sat down on the nearest bench.

"Why'd you do this to me, Mayu?" I brushed past a single tear. I noticed a pair of eyes watching me, I looked up and saw Mayank Markande. I huffed and turned away.

"Friends?" He stuck his hand out to me, I looked at him for a few seconds. I blinked away my tears,

"No,"
