Mahi's PoV

The Hospital's calls were becoming more and more frequent, I didn't know why nor did I want to. Maybe there was some last-minute paperwork, in a country like India, you could never know. Rubbing my temples, I started to flip through the player's fitness reports. They had a game, and the coach asked me to review and make sure that none of the players that he wanted to play were injured.

I'd checked through twice, and this was the third time. I couldn't see Mayank's name on there. This was the last game of the season, and Mayank hadn't played a single match. I knew it would crush him the moment he heard, I let out a soft sigh. I had to tell him before he found out through the coach.

Pushing back the chair, I rose to my full frame and strode out of the hotel room. There was general chatter and laughter in the team room, my eyes searching for my boyfriend.

"He isn't here," Sanju Samson chipped in, noticing my arrival and search. "He left a while back after getting a call."

"Oh,"

I rubbed the back of my neck before exiting the room, if Mayank wasn't at the team's goodbye session, where was he?

Hotel room, maybe?

My feet carried me in the direction of the hotel room while my mind was still up in the clouds, wondering how to tell him that he wasn't in the squad. The door clicked open as I stepped in.

There was someone else inside,

And that someone was most certainly not Mayank Markande.

The face was charred, the skin black with certain open spots. Dressed in a Puma sweatshirt and jeans, it was a human monstrosity. The face was disfigured, you couldn't tell what the noise was and what the lips were. The nose is half gone.

My limbs turned into lead and the 'creature' opened its mouth and whispered in a raspy voice.

"Mahi"

I screamed.
