"This is unacceptable." The tone of his voice was more than telling that he was angry even though he spoke normally. "I'm not going to be the reason why you leave school. Not that long ago you told me you weren't going to drop out and now you do just that?"
"It's not your decision to make," I said in my own defence. "I'm an adult too, I can decide for myself. It's what I want."
"You're not thinking clearly," he replied quickly, looking away from me. "I'm not supporting this, Sasuke."
"Neither am I," Shisui said, his head poking from the living room door. "You really should have thought this through more."
"Why are you both so against this? I can finish school a year later."
"We're older," he walked towards us, his hands crossed on his chest. "Have more experiences than you. So many people take a break from college only to never return."
"Shisui is right," Itachi walked into the living room as we both followed after him. "You didn't think this through properly."
"It was the only thing I've been thinking about the whole week. I want to do this." I put my hands on Itachi's shoulders. "I want to do this for us."
"I don't think you do," he pushed my hands away, taking a step back. "I think the only reason you've done this was because you don't believe we could make this work."
"That's not the case at all." I shook my head, not believing that he would actually think this way. "I was the one who proposed that we could make it work with Shisui in the picture, remember? I did that because I wanted you to be happy. Why can't you let me do this if that's what I want?"
"Because you're due to graduate this year, there is absolutely no reason for you to drop out. Look," he sat down on the sofa, holding his head in his hands. "If you're going to go through this, I won't support your decision. And what I mean by that is that I won't be with you. I'm not letting you sacrifice your future opportunities because of me."
"That sounds a little harsh-" Shisui said to my surprise.
"You can't be serious," I said, laughing. "Why would you say that?"
"Because, Sasuke, I care about your studies and I am aware that if it wasn't for me leaving, you would still keep on going to school. So like I've said, it's either you stay and finish your year, or we're done." The way he looked at me was cold. "I for one can't believe you would ever think I'd be with you on this."

"You know he means well, don't you?"
"I didn't ask for his opinion or for his approval."
"He cares about you, that's why he gave you that ultimatum. Do you really think it made him happy?"
"I'm guessing it made you happy most of all," I looked at him. He didn't seem as happy as I was expecting. "You have him all to yourself now."
"Why would I be happy? Of course I want him all to myself, just like you do. But winning this battle-" he did air quotations with his fingers, "by you just giving up, that's not how I wanted to win in the slightest."
"Either way, it doesn't matter anymore."
"But it does. He knows you only said that because you were hurt. You can take it back."
"You know what? I've done everything I could have thought of doing for him, to make him happy. If he can't accept one decision I've made for myself so I could be happy, then what's the point?"

The words I said to him before leaving his apartment were still ringing in my ears. Maybe we shouldn't be together at all then. I regretted it the second the words slipped out of my mouth. I knew it hurt him just as much as it hurt me. The way he looked at me, the way his eyes suddenly turned so dull and no sound escaped his lips.
"The point is that he knows you wouldn't be happy. This year is the one you will remember, not only because it's the year you two met, but because it's the year of your graduation. It's important. He wants to be there for when it happens. He wants to celebrate you entering a new chapter of your life. But not by you throwing it away for him."
"Like I said, it doesn't matter anymore." I shrugged, unbuckling the seatbelt. "Enjoy your life with Itachi alone." I stepped out of the car and waited for him to open the boot so I could grab my suitcase. As I began to walk towards the campus, I heard his car driving away, but I didn't have the strength to look back. I was entering a new chapter of my life, but it wasn't the one I wanted.

We're nearing the end of this story. It might end with the next couple of chapters. 👀
I wonder, will this have a happy ending? :---)))
