*time skip bc the grill would be similar to the actual scene from the show, only with Amber being Stefan's focus and not Elena*

The Bonfire - Part One

*honk honk hoooonnnnkkkkkk*

I'm pulled away from the drama of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth by the sound of a car horn, signaling that the girls are here to pick me up for the bonfire. I make sure to save my place before setting the book down on my nightstand. Grabbing my phone, I make my way to the front door. I lock it and then head down the front path towards Bonnie's Toyota Prius. As I near the car, I'm greeted by a series of catcalls and wolf whistles.

"Whooo yes girl!!" cries Bonnie.

"Work it!"  Elena shouts.

"Fantabulous!!" yells Caroline.

Laughing, I do a quick spin and pose before getting into the car.

"You guys are ridiculous," I say as I put on my seatbelt.

"Well you look ridiculously hot," Bonnie replies, turning in her seat to give me a pointed look.

I shake my head, chuckling lightly before responding.

"Hit the gas, girlfriend. We have a bonfire to get to."

15 minutes later

We arrive at the bonfire, immediately making our way to the keg while Caroline quickly hurries off to greet people. The remaining three of us grab our drinks and find a spot by the fire.

"So, Bonnie," Elena says, "What's up with this whole witch thing anyway?"

"I seriously have no idea," she responds, "Grams said that we come from a long line of witches that go back centuries. Like, all the way back to when the town was founded."

I stiffen before pushing back the memories infiltrating my thoughts.

"Witches?" I ask, "Like, Harry Potter, hocus pocus, abracadabra, voodoo witches?"

We are all silent for a moment before we bust out laughing.

"Omg shut up!" Bonnie cries.

"Come on, Bonnie! You gotta admit that this is hilarious," I say, still laughing.

"It is pretty funny. And weird," adds Elena.

"Ok, ok. It is kinda strange." Bonnie replies.

I take a sip of my drink, only half-listening as Bonnie and Elena continue talking. I look around, though I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for. Or who, for that matter. As I look towards the path that leads to the part of the woods the bonfire is in, I find myself looking into a pair of forest green eyes. Stefan gives a little smile and starts walking in our direction, but before he could take more than two steps, Caroline was there, stopping him. I take the opportunity to look away, telling Bonnie and Elena that I was going to get a refill, only to head in the opposite direction, towards the bridge.
