I listened to 'See You again 'by Tyler The Creator (feat Kali Uchis) while writing this chapter and the next ...

Zahra's POV
The envelope felt super heavy in my hands but I had already accepted the responsibility that came with it so I had better suck it up and keep my word.

I had just been let out of my creative arts seminar and was headed to meet Legacy at the gym.
We weren't working out of course, but there was a super popular cafe with the best açaí bowls.

I had crossed the main yard when someone fell into step with me, out of my peripheral I could see a pair of black chunky boots collecting grass and who knows what else.

With that observation I already knew who it was and began to step faster towards the gym. However, a perfectly mani cured black French tip latched onto the skin of my elbow and jerked me back.

"Ow that hurt, Katie! What is with you?" I seethed, jerking my arm back despite the hot surging pain.

Of course she rolled her eyes and pulled out a hand wipe." Well maybe if you picked up this little thing we call phones your cousin wouldn't have to ambush you."

I copied her with my own eye roll at this. "Half step cousin, right? I mean, that is what you told me and my mom last time we saw you. What was that, like three months ago Kathryn?" I tried my best not to giggle but did so anyway.

Katie's upper lip curled at the use of her full name and she huffed before stalking away. The girl not even tried to halfway defend herself, as expected.

Were all my relationships going to be complicated from now on? I really needed this talk with Legacy sooner rather than later before I became catatonic, she usually could balance my serious nature.

Arriving at our spot, the hostess whisked me over to the private dining room that Legacy basically owned, she didn't get her name for nothing .

"Welcome to Villarreal's! Would you like to try out special for Hispanic heritage month? " the waitress smiled a bit too brightly for me, obviously performing for my friend across the table checking her out like a piece of cake.

"Thanks, beautiful but we'll need some time to look the menu over. However, water and lemon wood be great for me and my friend." She may as well have purred the words the way our waitress was visibly swooning.

My goodness, I know that Legacy left her morals in Timbuktu but she could at least pretend like she had an inch left of it in public at least.

But of course I didn't voice this; I opted to nod briefly before digging into my purse for the envelope of discussion. But something inside of me screamed to stop.

It was more of a chill that I felt all the way to my toes so I decided to heed it and bring out my lip liner instead. As I reapplied my combo she began the conversation.

"Hi, babe! Where the fuck have you been lately? I feel like I haven't seen you in a proper long time." She pouted to make her point and I couldn't hold it - I laughed out

She narrowed her eyes at this. "Bloody hell, Zahra! I haven't been imagining it, you've been so dodgy to me as of late."

And once again a I laughed even harder because I just couldn't hold it in! Legacy grew up in Mexico but spent summers in Manchester. Apparently her family in Manchester cursed a lot  which rubbed off in her own anger today.
