Distractions and Explanations

   It took all of Bailey's willpower to finally get out of the car and go meet up with her date. The summer breeze blew through her skirt and she was thankful for wearing leggings.

She managed to catch up to the professor at the bench. Forcing a smile, she greeted with delight, "Afternoon, Aiko!"

The sudden outburst startled her and she turned her head before relaxing. The hybrid slyly snickered. "Fuck! Shiiitt... Don't scare me like that. It's been a while. I thought you forgot about me honestly."

"Nah. I've got a memory of a decent person, which isn't too much to say," Bailey joked. "You still hungry?"

"I actually just bought some fruit over by a vendor since you took," Aiko admitted. "We can still relax though."

"Damn, that's nice." She plopped down onto the bench with a groan of relief. "Honestly I could use the hour off. I've been having some serious burnouts since I went off my meds."

Aiko had a small cup of orange slices and started to open it. "For?"

"Mostly local vitamins or something to help with my stunted growth," she lied.

"Wait, you're still growing?"

Bailey shook her head and laughed a bit. "Oh no! Nothin' like that! My old guardian put me on all sorts of drugs because of my 'weak' immune system as a kid without realizing the effects of it when I was older." She scoffed and scratched at the back of her neck. "Anyways, enough about me. How's the teacher thing working out?"

"Pfft. What do you expect? I'm always in class teaching the same shit I've learned when I was in college," Aiko complained. "What about your modeling career? Last I checked, you were wearing a suit."

The hybrid sighed. "Yeah, that's because I normally model masculine clothes for short guys." That's when it occurred to her. "Shit. I've got a shoot tomorrow. I have to practice before then."

Aiko looked confused. "Uh... practice posing?"

"No, tomorrow I have a filming thing. The music video is supposed to be on ice." Bailey checked the time. It was still pretty early in the afternoon, so the ice rink should be open. And no one ever visits during the summer.

The professor only nodded as she got up. "Why not. I've got a few hours till I need to grade some papers."

She threw away her scraps and followed Bailey to her car. As they started driving, Bailey decided to talk some more.

"You don't mind ice skating in the middle of May?"

Aiko leaned back into the chair and sighed. "Not really. Besides, it was starting to get hot. Make sure I have fun though!"

Ben was staying at his cousin's cafe/bar, taking in the cozy atmosphere. It was a nice change in space than the tropical resort. Kyu was still counting the fairy wings on her phone. She suddenly looked up at him and groaned in anger.

He sipped at his soda rather bored. "What's wrong?"

"We're almost there! We just need a few more wings and then we can summon the Nymphojinn!" she whined. "Ugh! I think I'm just gonna wait for Golden Guns to lay Kyanna and Beli while you try and spend tomorrow to harvest the rest."

It took Ben a second before he realized who she meant. "Damnit! Why are you calling her that?! Her biceps aren't even that muscled! Speaking of Goldie though, you haven't been hanging with her lately."

"Pssh! Hell naw! If I do, she's gonna go off on a pun-fest again!" she argued. "Plus, that twin brother of hers warned me to stay away remember? Maybe I'll check on her tomorrow though. I got an alert saying she has a date with that Asian professor today, AND she has a potential attraction with Kyanna with Tiffany again."
