His first encounter with a real Hunter was one caked in blood and tragedy

He couldn't save him. He couldn't save a single man lost in his drunken blood spree. Such were the thoughts rushhing through his mind as the Hunter stood there in shock, staring at the bleeding form of the woman in front of him.

A frail human that by no means should have wandered out within the streets of Yharnam during the hunt.

She is weak, no more than prey to the abominations that lurks here

And yet she have bravely, foolishly, abandoned her daughter in search of that figure, in the hope she could compel him from that horrendous beasthood plaguing his mind

"Gas...coign"

With one final utterance of her husband's name, Viola collapsed into the pavement, dead as all the corpses around her could be

And the tears would not stop falling from his eyes

Opening his eyes, Ritsuka was greeted with the window in front of him

The reflection staring back has crimson, bloodshot eyes, as if belong to a man who had gone insane with grief

Negative thoughts from that day still plagued his mind until today. The at his inability to save a single one of them then, for what use is a Hunter's strength when he could not fight for them?

"Are you that hunter? Can you look for my mum?"

Blood and more blood dropped to the ground as Ritsuka wiped away his crimson tear

That is the moment he truly realized the truth of his nightmare

Hunters are not heroes. They are not valiant warriors who charged into battle and defeat the "evil" in front of them, nor are they advocate of justice and order whom everyone admire

No, they simply are the cleaners

And where there are carnage, there are hunters. With blades gleaming in the dark, they hacked away at everything that moves, to rid the city of it's unholy taint, even if it means killing their own brethren

This entire city is a fucking vile curse

But it is thanks to it that Ritsuka could finally see humanity for what it is. Their desire for survival, once turned to the darker side, reveal how much crimes they would be willing to commit to stay safe

He stood up from one of the stone archpillars surrounding Yharnam and picked up his Saw Cleaver. Kicking away the corpses in front of him, Ritsuka made his way to the nearby houses

Yharnamites does not like Foreigners, that is something he learned early in the hunt

Constantly shunning away the outsiders like a plague when they in fact are the pllague. Such is the outdated mindset of these townsfolk

Yet today, they are oddly silent

A part of his mind wandered back to the dream. Just like then, everything that is present in his first Hunt, the Doll, Gehrman, even the Hunters he met were not there

Or to be more accurate, they were replaced by his Servants back in Chaldea

First is Nightingale in the role of doctor Iosefka. Then it's the Hassan of Serenity as the Hunter of Hunters.

Each Servant and the role they replaced, he noticed, has their own correlation with each other.

Florence Nightingale is an English social reformer who dedicated her career to curing the sick and wounded, just like how Iosefka reject the Church's doctrine in place of helping them
