My Temporary Smile

I looked down at Knight and smiled. He'd never been outside the Palace before today. In his hands he hugged onto a basket of fruits and bread. I had flower seeds, and things for the cat and dog. I took Knight to a riverbank and set up a small picnic where we could enjoy our snacks. He ran around chasing butterflies and birds as I put my feet in the chilled water. The sound of my sons laughing ceased and I turned to look for him. I couldn't see him and I panicked.

"Knight. Knight come back here. Why can't mommy see you?"

After hearing no response I ran along the river frantically until I saw it. My son had seen the Prince. And was now crying in his arms.

"Daddy, I miss you. Daddy you left me!"

"Knight, daddy is right here, in your heart. Forever and always. And where are you?"

"Your heart."

"For how long?"

"Forever and always."

I kept my distance and smiled at my boys together once more. The sight a true marvel. Diamond walked towards me and sighed.

"You could cover up in any cloth, I know my boy when I see him."

"He's growing up I wanted him to see the village. So we came out. Were returning soon though. Why were you in the village?"

"My fiancee wanted to be showcased to the people. I didn't see the point, but then I saw my boys smile. I had to come see you."

"Well I'm glad you are well."

"Tempeste?"

"Yes?"

"Tempeste... Are you with child? With my child?"

At that moment voices began shouting his name in the distance, coming closer as they did. Diamond frowned, handed me Knight, and ran towards the voices and away from me. I let a few tears drop, and held tighter to my son.

"Don't cry mommy. Daddy's there. Forever and always."

My son and I had our picnic, and snuck back behind the palace walls. We went home locked the door, and prepared for bed. The whole while I thought of Diamond. This time, I didn't cry. I allowed a smile to dance on my lips. Yes my King, I am.
