The shrill cry was terrible – truly terrible. It was worst than the noise that chalk makes against a board. I cover my ears shielding them from the awful noise. I may not know every single animal sound, but I am pretty sure that one does not belong to any animal on earth. I looked up as the sound stopped. Twenty feet away stood a frightening creature. I screamed as it lunged forward. I quickly grabbed a long strip of metal – most likely it broke off from the ship – and jumped up. I tucked the stone into my pocket so I could hold the metal with both hands.

Before the terrifying thing could get closer, I stepped in front of Scaley – I am just tired of saying 'it' – and with all my strength swung my only weapon of defense at the beast. It let out a cry as I made a direct hit on the side of its oval shaped head. It shook off the attack quickly jumping back at me. I stumbled to the ground, surprised at its quick recovery. It lunged again. Thinking fast I blocked it with the long strip of metal. I put all my strength into holding the creature back as it continued to pin me down. I was grateful I had enough strength to keep it far enough away from biting my face off.

I started to scream as it opened its mouth. Fear gripped at my heart, as I stared into its mouth. Its teeth glinting from the fire. Slim was dripping down and something wet traveled up my face.

      It was licking me!

If I wasn't so scared, I would throw up. This shit is nasty. Oh my – it smells horrible.

I turned my head away from the creature, wishing it would go away. Cries of help leapt from my mouth as the thing hissed at me. My grip on the metal was starting to loosen. I closed my eyes as my energy was draining, giving the creature the opportunity to reach me.

     It never did.

Suddenly the weight was lifted off me, and a thud was followed after. I opened my eyes to see Scaly standing in front of me. His eyes were a bright yellow surrounding his catlike pupils. I quickly realized that his eyes were staring back into my gray orbs. For a moment everything was still, the fire casted shadows across his face. It was quite except for the sounds of our breathing.

I was starting to wonder if it was a good idea to protect the one in front of me. But I kept in mind that it did technically save me from being killed by whatever that thing is. Or Scaley just doesn't want to share a meal.

Our staring contest was short lived when the black creature hissed as if reminding us that it wasn't gone yet. I quickly glanced over to see the ugly thing was getting back up on its legs. I looked back at the one in front of me. My eyes were wide with fear, hoping he would know what to do.

The scaled being's yellow eyes searched my face. It's not like my face holds the answer of killing this thing. I gulped down my fear, "Stop staring and help me fight this thing!" His eyes widened in shock, probably not expecting those words to be my response.
