"Navya beta, did you ask Ramesh to put all the sweets and the gifts we had packed for Nandini's family?" Dadi asked looking at all the gifts for the final time, before setting them in the car.
"Jii Dadi, everything has been arranged just like you told" Navya said passing her a glass of water. Dadi gulped it in a go and sat down gesturing the butler to put them in the car carefully.
"Dadi, are these the ones that you asked me to bring along?" Aliya came to her with a pair of antique bangles making Dadi smile.
"Yes, these are the ones. These are your mother's and they would now be passed on to her daughter-in-law" she said caressing the bangles with utmost love. Aliya's eyes welled up with tears thinking of her mother, who wasn't with them to witness the important moment of her son's life. She hugged Navya and sobbed silently. Navya rubbed her back wiping her own tears, not letting anyone see them.
Cabir who had just stepped into the living room, immediately understood what had happened.
"Aliya Navya" he called them sternly making the sisters gasp. Cabir used that tone, only when he was really angry. Aliya broke the hug and wiped her tears immediately. The sisters stood like school kids looking down fidgeting with their clothes. Dadi smiled knowing how he could perfectly handle the situation.
"Aliya, go and see if Manik is ready or not. We need to leave in 5 minutes and he hasn't stepped out of his room till now" he continued in the same tone and Aliya ran away immediately.
"And clean yourself up before coming down. We don't want to scare the Oberoi's" he added playfully making her jaw drop. She was halfway on the stairs and walked away stomping her foot angrily.
"And you Mrs. Dhawan, what did I tell you about crying?" he was back to his strict self, standing in front of her crossing his hands across his chest, almost towering her. She gave him a sheepish smile trying to melt him, but he didn't budge.
"Sorry" she said holding her ears pouting making him smile.
He pulled her closer and hugged her tightly kissing on the top of her head. "Don't waste your precious tears. You know right how much they hurt me?" he asked still in the hug and she nodded her head in a Yes. And before he could say a word further they heard someone clearing their throat and like someone who has touched fire, the couple broke the hug and stood at a feet's distance making Dadu and Dadi laugh loudly.
"I thought I had stepped into their bedroom for a second" Dadu added making them blush.
"Umm actually dadu, vo Navya was crying, so" Cabir tried to explain, but Dadu dismissed it by waving his hand
"No need to explain beta, its okay. So if everyone is ready, shall we leave. It doesn't look good if we go late"
"5 more minutes, Aliya has gone to check on Manik, Abhi and Mukti should be here any moment." Cabir said and signalled Navya to clean her face. She walked to their room taking hurried steps
"Aaram se Navya" Dadu and Cabir said it together making Dadi and Navya smile.
"How am I looking?" Manik said coming down the stairs. At the same moment Abhi and Mukti had also stepped into the living room.
