Keith P.O.V.
The doorbell rang and I set my laptop down next to me to walk toward the door. I looked through the peephole and saw Olivia standing there, Diana was on her hip watching the door, waiting eagerly for it to be opened. I swung open the door and lifted Diana from Olivia and brought her cheeks to my lips, "Hi Princess.""Hi daddy!" she wrapped her short arms around me and slid down before running off into the house. I looked over at Olivia, who was looking at me with an exasperated look. Although I hate to admit it, the left over baby weight that she didn't lose looked really good on her. Instead of the twig she was in high school, she looked like a well-rounded, curvy woman. She crossed her arms and her lips were in a thin line.
"What'd I do now?" I sighed, leaning against the doorframe.
Olivia lowered her voice to a harsh whisper and her eyes flared with rage, "So, when I took my daughter home the other day she kept rambling on and on about a nice lady named Alex who played with her all day. She even asked if she could get 'pretty yellow hair'! If she's talking about that little home-wrecking whore, Keith, I swear to God!"
"Why do you still have to refer to her in those terms, Olivia?" I asked. I had forgotten about Alex temporarily as I was doing paperwork for a meeting tomorrow but because of Olivia, little images of Alex breaking up with me resurfaced. I blinked back any feelings and looked over at Olivia.
"Because not only did she break our relationship, she ruined my perfect school life and she's the reason we can't be a family."
"We are a family."
"I want a family like my parents had. A married couple and children, maybe even a dog. But do I get that? No. I don't want Diana ten feet from that ugly cow."
"You're acting very immature right now Olivia. Don't worry though, she won't be seeing Alex again. She's gone," I sighed, "for good this time."
Olivia's scowl slowly curled up and she held an overconfident smirk. She walked past me and into the house then turned and looked at me, "What? Did you knock up another girl? No! Don't tell me, I want to guess. Tell me if I'm right or wrong. She caught you red-handed with another woman. Am I right?"
"Shut the fuck up, Olivia."
"Oh, I'm getting close."
"If you don't get the hell out of my house right now," I stepped dangerously close to Olivia. Her face was one of pure happiness.
"Or you'll what? You won't do anything."
"Get. Out."
"Mommy? Daddy?" I saw Diana's sad eyes looking up at me, her tea-party box in her hand, "Are you guys fighting?"
I gave Olivia a warning look and swept Diana in my arms, "No, we are not fighting. We're just talking loudly. Why don't you set up the tea party and I'll be there in five minutes." She looked satisfied enough and ran toward the playroom. I turned and face Olivia again and repeated myself more calmly, "Please get out."
Olivia walked toward the door, stopped halfway, then turned to face me again, "Keith, take some advice from me. She obviously doesn't want or care about you, mmk? You almost died for her. Remember that? Where's she? She left you. Again. Because she does not care. Move on, babe." with that she walked out the house and shut the door. Everything was silent except the sounds of plastic plates and utensils hitting against each other.
She doesn't want or care about you.
She left you. Again.
She doesn't care.
Move on.
"Dad! The party's ready to begin!" Diana poked her head out the kitchen and smiled at me. "Are you coming?"
"I wouldn't miss it," I said, plastering a smile on my face and walking over to join her.
