"Alex, where were you last night?" Cam asks me as I take a sip of hot chocolate from the indoor coffee machine.
In a lack of an excuse I pointed to the plastic cup to indicate I couldn't talk right now. I once heard somewhere if you drink something too hot your breath would smell. I wonder if that would work now, but I discard that idea when I see Cam's eyes drilling into mine.
"Elaine needed help with the baby. You know how Danny's a workaholic and he's never home? The baby tired me out and I went to sleep there," I lied.
To be honest, I had thought about telling him the truth and mentally played it out in my head because each time I did it always ended the same. Cam gave me a heartbreaking look, walked away, and never looked back.
The thing is I don't want him to break up with me. I already have our lives planned out. We're going to get married, have two kids, Ashley and Tim, and grow old together as we watch our grandchildren prance around our yard. This can't happen if I tell him about my little---okay giant slip with Keith.
"Why didn't you call me?"
"My battery died," I say mentally praying that Cam will stop asking questions.
"Alright," his face lights up, "Guess what I bought?"
"What?" I ask.
Cam digs inside his pant pockets and hands me a folded paper. Confused, I flip the paper open and see an image of a beautiful house, to the side of it was small pictures of the inside. The description gives a list of the endless rooms the house possesses.
"It's all for us," Cam smiles, coming behind me and wrapping his arms around his waist, "Of course we don't get it until Thursday."
And the worst fiance award goes to...!
"Wow," I breathe.
"You deserve nothing but the best, Alex. And I'll see to it you do."
"Thanks," I say giving a smile to hide the fact I want to cry.
Alexandra Bolton! Come on up, Alex! "I'd like to thank my friends, and my family..."
Cam turns me around and gives me a kiss before turning and walking away. With heavy feet, I walk toward my office. Unfortunately, to get to my office I have to pass Amy's. When she sees me, she spins on her chair to face me. She smiles at me, "Alex! Just the girl I wanted to see. Where's my interview?"
"I don't have your interview," I say through gritted teeth. I start to walk again.
"You don't have it? Did he refuse to speak? If he did this is better than the interview--"
"Amy! Shut up and forget the damn interview!" I snap, walking into the office and slamming the door even though there's really no point considering the door's clear. I slid down in my chair and flip open my laptop. I'm about to look up my horoscope when I see Amy's handwriting on my desk.
"Type this up," the note says. Attached to the note is two page story about scams when Internet shopping and "how to prevent yourself from becoming a victim." Like a mindless zombie I type the article word for word without the story even processing in my head. After proof-reading for typos I email it off to the publisher.
The key is not to let anyone know about the Keith situation. I'm not going to tell a soul, I'm going to let this issue die.

"You did what?!" Elaine shrieks after I finish telling her the story.
"It was a lack of judgement."
"I know how this happened," she says brightening up over the phone. I raise my eyebrows although she can't see me,
"And how, pray tell, did this happen?"
"It's obvious. You and Keith have all this pent up lust that has been stored behind for seven years after your spilt. When you two saw each other again the sexual tension burst and your hormones took over."
"Anyway . . ." I say dismissing her words, "Cam just went and bought us a house. A freakin'house after what I did to him. I didn't even tell him."
I hear a sigh over the phone, "Alex. Have you forgotten who Keith is? He banged another girl and used you for a passing grade during sophomore year high school. Then, you gave him another chance when you were whisked off to Maine and he impregnated a girl from what you told me. Do you even know if he doesn't have some type of STD?"
"No..." I admit.
"As your friend, it's my duty to tell you when you've done something that makes George Bush look like Albert Einstein."
"Elaine, you know how much I hate political related statements."
"Are you at least going to tell Cam?"
"Erm . . ." I trailed off.
"Alex! You have to tell him the poor guy, it's not fair to him.
"But he'll call off the wedding and I'll be lonely forever!"
"You should've thought of that yesterday. I have to go Alex, Danny needs me."
For the rest of the day I'm silent, I do nothing but work. I don't even sneak away to load up on junk food like I usually do. Five minutes before my shift is over I check my email. I scroll down, clicking the white boxes to delete the email but I stop when I see an email from someone I don't recognize. The subject reads, "Having a little affair, Alex?"
Curiously I click the email and a text pops up: My, my, my...someone's been naughty haven't they? Below that are clear pictures of me from Starbucks to making out with Keith in his car. "What the hell?" I whisper.
I apologize if this sucks. During Aug-Oct the creative part of my mind takes a break. Remember you guys; COMMENT, VOTE, and FAN!! 2/3 are one click :D
