A/N: I've been listening to Deja Vu by Olivia Rodrigo a lot lately and was really inspired to write this fic. Hope you enjoy, I know it's been a while since I've written something.

The streets of Diagon Alley should have been a welcome sight with the tenderness of childhood familiarity. Everything looked the same to you with the buildings lined up with the dwindling customers leaving for the evening. As you slowed down on the street it was easy to see how nothing had changed and how the passage of time was left unaffected. Deep down you knew better than to take anything at face value, though, and it didn't matter how long you had been gone.

The entirety of a whole year passing by before you was here in these streets amongst witches and wizards didn't feel as long as it was. The space was, perhaps, needed after your breakup with Fred - a break up neither of you saw coming till it all but hit you in the face.

Countless nights apart with his time in the shop building up left little time for a real relationship. The time that you were together seemed to fade to nothing that it was before with countless arguments - Fred was tired and so were you. You never really sat down and thought if this fatigue was from the relationship that was in stark contrast to what it began as in your Hogwarts years or if it was that perhaps adulthood had simply come with added pressures that two people barely in adulthood could manage. You didn't think on that one bit and it didn't seem that Fred had either.

When you got the letter of an opportunity you couldn't pass up as everything seemed to line up. Fred had the shop and he and George were only growing. It only seemed to you that maybe a break up was best. He already didn't have time for you and in your mind, a fresh career start was what your life needed - what you needed.

The sad part about some break-ups was that both people see it coming and there is no blowout. You and Fred had a passionate relationship and there was no case of nonexistent fights but your break up was not one of these. You could still remember everything about it and maybe that's why your chest felt heavy with the burden of a love you lost.

The letter that you had been reading and reading again fell on the dining room table. Its words seemed to taunt you. A job at Ilvemorny - a job that you had only dreamed of as a bright-eyed student - was at the tip of your fingers but despite the long nights and dwindling relationship you had trouble grasping the thought of letting Fred go. He wasn't just your boyfriend but someone who had been your friend since you were but a child. How could you let him go?

The pop of apparition flooded your ears and you found Fred hanging up his coat by the door and loosening his tie, not even bothering to greet you. It was clear that today just like every other day had left Fred tired and with no time for you.

"Fred." You greeted softly and couldn't even find it in yourself to grieve over the loss of a nickname you had only ever called him. It was always Freddie, never Fred but it seemed times were changing, "Can we talk?" Your eyes searched his but he seemed only interested in sleep.

"Tomorrow love." He assured a false promise, the very same you had heard for months. "It was a long day and I'm tired. We can talk tomorrow." He made his way down the hallways to your bedroom but you stopped him.
