Derek softly closes the door behind him as he follows Meredith into the bathroom. He is certain he can hear his own heart pounding. He slowly walks towards her as she slumps over the sink, the bright red blood clashing somewhat beautifully with the white marble of the counter.

"Let me see," he softly commands as he takes her delicate hand in his. "Luckily it isn't too deep. We just need to clean it out and bandage it to prevent infection."

She nods silently as he places her hand under the warm tap. She watches as the water dilutes the blood before it swirls down the drain. She can hear Derek opening the medicine cabinet and can almost feel him reaching over her to retrieve the supplies that he needs. His hot breath fans her face. Her eyes flutter closed as she relishes the small moment of intimacy. She hisses as he pours antiseptic over the wound, killing any bacteria that might have invaded the small incision.

"Sorry," he whispers softly as his fingers gingerly brush over the wound, almost as if he is hoping his simple touch would take away her pain. He doesn't know how well it worked.

"It's okay," she responds quietly as she leans against the sink.

"Meredith?" he asks as he begins to wrap her finger in gauze as an extra precaution.

"Yeah?" she nervously responds as she stares at his hand wrapping the gauze.

"Before I apologize for being as ass," he begins as he finishes dressing her wound. "I just...I need to know...I think I know...but I need to hear you say it...and don't say because we had a deal...we both know that is a bullshit answer...why didn't you tell me?" he asks as he lifts her face up to his with his forefinger and thumb.

Her eyes well with tears as her bottom lips trembles almost imperceptibly. "I...I was scared," she whispers in a shaky voice.

Derek's eyes soften as he takes another step towards her. "Of what?" he implores.

She takes a deep breath. She knows that he deserves to know. "That you would be angry," she whispers.

Derek knits his brows as his mouth falls slightly agape, her answer not the one that he was expecting. "Why on earth would I be angry?"

A tear trails down her cheek as her hand trembles, still in his grip. She shrugs. "I have never been able to do anything right. It was my fault. I forgot to take the pill...and as much as it was a mistake, I was afraid you would think it was one. That I was one," she whispers.

He wraps his arms around her in an instant, pulling her body against his. He runs his fingers through her hair as he whispers to her. "Oh, Mer. I...I might have been shocked, but I could never be angry. Creating life is never a mistake and it is one of the best things we could ever do."

A sob wracks her body as she flings her arms around his torso. Her hands clutch at the warm material of his sweater. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry," she mumbles into his chest as the tears now begin to flow freely.

Derek pulls her body away from his, his eyes searching her face. He reaches up and wipes away a falling tear, the brush of his finger slow and soft. Meredith instinctively leans into his touch.

"Mer," he whispers in a voice hoarse with emotion as his face moves closer towards hers.

"Yeah?" she whispers as her eyes travel down his face and rest on his lips.

His lips graze against hers, his breath now mingling with hers in the miniscule space that exists between their mouths.

"I'm sorry for being as ass," he whispers against her lips.

In response, Meredith moves forward slightly, closing the small spatial difference between them. They both sigh in relief as their lips mesh together for the first time in what seems like an eternity. Derek's right hand travels to the small of Meredith's back, pulling her body closer, causing her rounded abdomen to press plush against him. As their lips move in synchrony, Meredith begins to giggle against his mouth.

Derek smiles as he pulls back and rests his forehead against hers. "What?" he asks as he traces his forefinger along her jaw line.

"I think he's happy," she responds with a smile as her eyes twinkle for the first time in a while.

Derek's brow wrinkles in confusion. "Who?"

Meredith giggles again, a sound Derek has missed greatly. "Our son," she whispers as she grabs his left hand and moves his to a spot on her abdomen.

Derek chuckles as he feels the small kicks against his hand. "I guess he is," he says with a broad grin as the pair lapse into a comfortable silence, Meredith's hand resting on top of Derek's.

"Mer?" Derek says after a minute.

Meredith looks up into his eyes. "Yeah?"

"I'm happy too," he whispers before softly brushing his lips against hers.

As their tongues collide passionately, Meredith can't help but think that she is happy as well. For the first time since she said goodbye to him on the cruise ship, Meredith feel complete and happy. Those endless summer nights spent together all of those months ago have finally turned into endless days and endless nights at the promise of a lifetime spent together.
