Audition Process- Chapter 1
Song of the Chapter: "What a Wonderful World (feat. Shadow Royale)" by Joseph William Morgan- The song from the Insurgent Trailer
Shailene's Pov-
Ring, Ring
The alarm clock on my iPhone goes off, signifying that it's time to wake up. I roll over on my bed and grab my phone off of my nightstand, unlocking it and then shutting off the alarm. The screen reads 9:00. I have about an hour until I have to leave and head to my audition.
The audition is for some book adaptation called "Divergent. My agent called me the other day saying that the director had requested me thinking I'd be great for the role. Its's rather flattering knowing that I was someone's first choice for a huge movie franchise. It's also puts some pressure on me, though because I don't want to let anyone down.
I've learned that you can't really think about what other's say about you and your performances, along with your personal life. When I was younger I was addicted to social media, always using my phone and laptop. I've learned that I wanted to be more present and not get wrapped up in the opinion of others. I honestly don't think it's any of my business what other's say about me, so I deleted all of my social media. I still have a phone which I use to stay in contact with my friends and managers. I don't go on twitter, instagram, or anything else like that, though. I also never read articles about myself and I never click on links that talk about my personal life. I honestly don't want to put myself down so I avoid listening to people's hate about me.
I haven't yet read the book so I'm not completely positive what it's about, but after reading the plot summary, I must admit it seems rather interesting.
I'm auditioning for the lead character, Tris. She seems like a complex character, as well as a strong, empowered women. They story features her being a "Divergent" someone who can't be classified into one "faction", a system they use to separate people in this futuristic society.
I stand up and yell " Good morning, Good morning! Exciting Day, Exciting Day!" at the top of my lungs. I sing that every morning to start my day off on a positive note. I then walk into the bathroom and quickly take a shower. Once I'm finished showering I wrap a towel around my body and walk into my bedroom. I then quickly get dressed and dry my long hair, then putting it up in a pony-tail. I almost never wear makeup unless it's required for a scene or I'm appearing on a red carpet or in an interview, in those cases my makeup artist does a simple makeup look. I believe in natural beauty and honestly feel more confident when I'm not wearing any makeup at all.
After I'm finished getting dressed I walk into my kitchen and make myself a bowl of fresh fruit. I also fill up my mason jar with fresh spring water. I quickly eat my breakfast, grab my phone and keys, and leave my apartment.
------------------------------Page Break----------------------------
I arrive at the building the audition is being held and wait until the director, a man named Neil Burger, calls me back. He leads me into a room where two other people are seated, the producers Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher. Before I have to read any lines they said they would like to interview me first. I introduce my self and them have a seat, waiting for them to ask me any questions.
" So, Shailene, I'd just like to start off by saying that I've seen your work in " The Descendants" and I thought it was amazing. What interests you in the role of Tris, because I really think your ability to be emotional and empowered at the same time can really add to the character?" Neil asks.
" I really liked the character because I liked how she was such a, like you said, empowered women. I love how society is slowly bringing leading women roles into movies and books. I also like how Tris and Four both have a very complex relationship where they can have a general partnership and trust along with a romance at the same time. I haven't read the books yet, but from what I hear they have a very dynamic relationship." I answer.
" Do you personally have any experience around guns and wilderness?" Lucy Fisher asks
" Yes, quite a lot actually. A few years ago I found out about "rewilding." It's basically the process of restoring the world to a more natural and pure state. I know how to hunt and build a campfire because I'd like to be able to be prepared for anything."
" We have heard that you might be a little hesitant to accept this role?" Neil asks again.
" Yeah, I was honestly a little worried about committing to another long-term project. I recently came off of a television show, " The Secret Life of an American Teenager.", and I wasn't sure if I wanted another project that will take more than a few months." I start. " When I found out that I was offered this role I reached out to Jennifer Lawrence and asked her how "The Hunger Games" has effected her life. I also realized that I was letting fear decide weather or not I took this role. I think now I'm much less worried about the long-term commitment, so if I was offered the role I'd be happy to take it."
" Okay, that's about all of the questions we have for now so I'd like to hear you read part of the script if that's okay with you." Neil said standing up and handing me part of the script. " Read the highlighted part please."
I stand up and read a few paragraphs of lines. It's the part where Tris takes the test to find out what faction she belongs in. After finding out she is Divergent and can't be classified Tori tells her the dangers of being Divergent and states that she can't let anyone find out about it. Tris then heads home,Tori telling her that if anyone asks to lie and say the simulation made her sick. While I was practicing the script Lucy was reading Tori's lines.
" Thank you Miss Woodley you did very well, we will contact you as soon as we finalize who's going to be playing the role of Tris." Neil says taking the script from me.
" Thank you." I say and leave, heading home.

Okay, so that's it for the first chapter. How was it? I'm not sure if I should make chapters longer, shorter, or keep them the same length.
I also tried to keep this as accurate as I could. Shai actually does participate in rewildering and she does really sing " Good Morning" every morning, along with getting her own spring water and trying to stay as healthy as she possibly can.
I hope you all enjoyed :)
