Inspired by Shinigami Gelus's story from Death note

For the ones who know... I'm sorry and those who don't, be prepared...

// Death

------

He had been here to take the boy's life, but he had never thought he would fall for him this hard.

The moment he had set his eyes on him he had been completely smitten with him. His big brown eyes, his soft cheeks, his chestnut lips that always seemed to smile his way. Which was impossible, the boy couldn't see him...

He had come for the boy twice before. Once when he was 9, and when he was 19. Mew had stood by, watching from the sideline, in his all-black ensemble, eyes following the boys every movement and not able to end the boy's life each time...

He had seen how the boy had grown up into a fine young man, impeccable manners, loving and caring towards everyone around him, traits that made Mew fall for him all the more so and he had decided then and there that he would do anything in his power to protect him.

But he couldn't go against time and time told him that the boy didn't have much left anymore.

He watched the time tick by, the hours on earth for the boy slowly lessening until his last day came.

And so here he was, watching Gulf at age 29 still happily dancing through his living room, unknown to the fact he would die in a couple of hours. On October 7th 5.59pm to be exact.

"Mew, you can't change his fate..."

A hand on his shoulder startled him out of his thought and he looked back at the pity filled eyes of his friend.

Mew only nodded; his lip corner slightly pulled into a smile but never meeting his eyes.

Kaprao didn't know how it felt to love someone that much but he had seen Mew slowly become more silent over time. He knew about the nearing end of the boy.

"there's a way." Mew suddenly said, shocking him. Kaprao didn't know what he was talking about at first but turned whiter than the reaper already was when it clicked.

"Please, Mew don't do it! It will mean the end for you! It's against the rules!" Kaprao pleaded with him. Mew's hands trembled, holding the death note in his hands. The names of the people whose life he had taken already scribbled in them.

But what he was about to do was against the rules.

Writing down a name to save someone else's...

To save Gulf's life...

"what's the point of living a life if the source I lived for is gone..." Mew choked out, bowing his head over the book and grabbed his pen out of the cloak.

"No, No, NO! Mew! Don't do it! Don't leave me too!" Kaprao cried out started pulling on his hand, trying to pull the pen away from the paper.

He stopped all his movements when Mew looked up at him, the pain shown in his eyes so saddening it made Kaprao stumble back and lose any reasoning to stop him.

"Please, look after him for me." Mew spoke out in a choked sob.

He couldn't fathom seeing Gulf die and the cold and hard demeanour of the Shinigami had crumbled, turning the hard Shinigami into a monster with a beating heart, a beating heart only for Gulf. And now that he would lose him, what was the point of living any longer?

So, he had made his decision long ago already.

The moment Mew scribbled the name on the old papers in the book and his pen pulled away after he wrote down the last letter, he was done for.

A single tear falling out of the Shinigami's eyes as his breath stuttered.

Slowly but surely, his body started evaporating into thin air. With a deep sigh he spoke his last words.

"Please, live the life I give you to the fullest for me..."

The wind howled and took the ashes with it, spreading it through the dark stormy sky and the death note fell to the ground with a thud...

A piercing cry sounded in the cold evening sky. A body huddled on the ground in a dimly lit apartment as it cried so heartbreakingly the wind stilled to mourn with the boy.

The moment the Shinigami died; Gulf had fallen to the ground by a sudden stab to his chest, gasping for air as he cried out loud.

Memories flashed through his mind of a man, and the words 'please, live the life I give you to the fullest for me." kept on being repeated on and on in his head.

A knock on the door alerted him and he stumbled to his front door. Upon opening it he was met with a dark figure, clad in a dark cloak stood Kaprao, hand sticking out, in its hand one single book.

He grabbed it and clutched it to his chest in trembling hands while he cried, tears streaming down his face.

His legs gave out the moment he closed the door and he fell to the ground. The memories of Mew were vivid in his mind, he could feel his love down to his core and now he knew why he had never felt scared for anything in his life. Mew had been the one protecting him.

He sobbed and cried until he whispered with a deep and grateful smile, holding the Death note close to his chest and kissed it.

"thank you, thank you Mew..."
