Skating

We had been arguing a lot lately. Work for me was busy, and he was getting ready for his first solo tour. I knew he was nervous and excited and probably a lot of other things too. The tension was starting to come between us. The stupid little fights were just that, stupid. They didn't mean anything, but we couldn't seem to stop them either. It was Sunday morning, the one day of the week that we usually keep free just for us. I stretched and opened my eyes to find his watching me.

“Good morning beautiful.” He smiled softly and whispered.

“Hmmm. Good morning.” I smiled back and rolled to face him. “Did you sleep well?”

He sighed. “I did. Did you?” He ran his fingers lightly over my shoulder and down my side.

I nodded and giggled. His light touch tickled. “I actually did.”

He half smiled back at me. “Good. Can I take you on a date today? We haven't had near enough us time and I want to fix that.”

“I would love that Mr. Kaplan. What do you have planned?” I bit my lip and smiled at him.

“You'll see.” He leaned in and kissed me softly. “How about you go take a bath or a shower and I will get everything set up.”

“That sounds amazing.” I kissed him back and took my time stretching and getting out of bed. I decided to take a very long, hot, shower. I took my time scrubbing and exfoliating my skin, shaving what needed to be shaved, and washing and conditioning my hair. I got out and dried off and looked at myself in the mirror as I wiped the fog away. I had no idea what he had planned, but I was excited. I was wondering what he wanted me to wear. As I made my way back into the bedroom, I didn't have to wonder anymore. He had carefully laid out a complete outfit for me including a cute bra and panty set. He had pulled out a pair of light blue skinny jeans and a flirty, pink, ruffled top. I got dressed and pulled my hair into a ponytail and went in search of him. I found him showered and dressed in the living room waiting for me. He handed me a pair of sandals and whistled low.

“You look amazing.” He pulled me tight against him and kissed me like he never would again.

Once I caught my breath, I licked my lips and looked at him. “You don't look half bad yourself.”

He jokingly frowned at me and laughed. “Let's go get some food.”

I slipped my sandals on and grabbed my purse. He led me out to the car and we went out to eat.

We ended up at our favorite breakfast place. We ate slowly and talked. It was nice having that time to reconnect. After our dishes were cleared, he reached across the table and took my hands. “Have you ever been roller skating or rollerblading before?”

I smiled at him and blushed. “Yes, but a very long time ago.”

He chuckled and smiled at me. “Good thing I'm a pro then.” He paid the bill and helped me out of the booth and led me to the car. He attempted to reassure me while he drove us to a roller rink. He pulled into the parking lot and helped me out of the car. He pulled a bag out of the backseat and led us into the building. I was nervous, but I figured we would have fun. He went to the counter and got our skates and we found seats in the locker room. He smiled at me and set everything down. He pulled a pair of socks out of the bag and tossed them at me. “Put those on, please.”

I did as he asked. “What's next?” I wiggled my feet at him.

He just shook his head and smiled at me. “The skates.” He picked up the smaller pair and sat on the floor in front of me. He loosened the laces on the left one and put it on my foot. He explained the fit to me and laced it all the way up and tied it tight. He repeated the action with the right one. He told me to stay seated while he put his own on. He gathered the bag and our shoes and put all of it in a locker. He rolled over to me and held out his hands. “We'll go slow. I promise.”

He pulled me to my feet and started pulling me towards the rink. I squeezed his hands and tried to stay loose. He entered the floor skating backwards. He carefully explained to me the easiest way to move. True to his word we moved very slow. He held my hands and kept solid eye contact with me. We made a few slow passes around the floor before he let go of one of my hands and skated side by side with me. The rink wasn’t very crowded and we had plenty of room. It was so comforting to be doing something together and not fighting.

We continued for about an hour. I was ready to sit down for a bit, so he guided me to the floor exit and to a seat. He got us a couple of bottles of water and then he took to the floor again. He was skating forwards and backwards and so fast. I was in awe watching him maneuver the floor. He looked so free and happy, I had tears in my eyes.

He made his way back to me when they called for a couples skate. He held his hands out to me and led me back to the floor as the music changed to some romantic slow song. He held me close and sang to me as he guided us around the floor. We were in our own little world and it was just what we needed. I think I fell in love with him all over again.

We skated and sat some more and ended up going out for dinner before heading home for some alone time. With everything going on in our lives, this was the perfect day and I learned more about him and us.
