We were two days away from leaving for the start of his first U.S. tour and I was nervous. Europe had gone exceptionally well and I was settling into my role as tour photographer well. However, I didn't know as many of the fans in Europe by sight like I would in the U.S. In fact I knew a lot of them personally and I was very nervous about how people would react if they recognized me. Very few people knew about our relationship status, though there were some subtle, and not so subtle, clues on our social media accounts. I had talked publicly about getting into photography, so that role wasn't too much of a stretch, but I was very nervous about some fans putting two and two together. The crazier ones can be scary at times and I was definitely feeling anxious about that. I wondered if he had considered any of that.
I was in the process of packing my camera bag when he snuck up behind me and wrapped his arms around me. I sighed. He smelled so good. I zipped my bag and turned in his arms to face him. “I think I am officially packed. So at least that much is ready.”
He got that wrinkle in the middle of his forehead. “Is something not ready?”
He always saw right through me. “Me.”
He looked confused. “Europe went so well. I see no reason why this one will be different.”
I kissed him softly. “Aren’t you worried about potential fan reactions to me being on tour with you?”
He put his hands on either side of my face and held my eyes with his. “Let people think what they want to think.” He kissed me breathless and reached for my hands. He brought my left one up and kissed my ring. “Maybe we should just announce it and take all questions off the table. What do you think about that?”
“I think you are crazy.” I laughed. There was no way I could see him doing that.
He looked at me earnestly. “I’m halfway serious.”
“I think life would be easier for both of us if you didn’t.”
He just chuckled and pulled me tight into his chest. “We can talk about it later. How about I make dinner from what little food we have in the fridge and you just relax?”
I nodded my head, hugged him real tight one last time and retreated to the couch. I settled on the couch and got lost in a text conversation with Michelle. She did her best to convince me that I was being silly, but she also thought that a public announcement might not be the best idea either. We confirmed her show tickets just as Avi finished dinner. It was really good. We laughed and talked over dinner. We went through our checklists of everything we needed to do while we did dishes and cleaned up the kitchen. Brad was going to keep an eye on the house while we were gone and everything was packed and by the front door. The first show of the tour was in Nashville, and the plan was to get on the road afterwards.
We did a walk around downstairs to make sure the house was clean and walked hand in hand upstairs to go to bed. We were settling in when he brought up the idea of making an announcement again. I just smiled and shook my head, “Sweetie, you do what you want to do. You are better at taking the lead than I am.”
He leaned in to kiss me, reached for his phone and reached for my hand. He took a closeup picture of our hands with my ring as the focal point, the background blurry as it was the bedspread. He went to his socials and added the caption ‘She said yes!’ tagged me in it and cross posted it. He then promptly turned his phone off and advised me to do the same. “We can deal with that in the morning, I promise. Tonight, all of your attention belongs to me, because you definitely have all of mine.” He smiled wickedly and rolled me to my back and made good on the fire in his eyes.
