You didn't realise the girls were reading it over your shoulder until their squeals deafened your ears. They started flapping around and jumping around you, while you just sat there, rereading the words that you didn't believe he had actually sent.
"Ohmygod you HAVE to tell him you feel the same!" Naeve grinned at you.
"I don't know if I feel the same." You muttered.
"You would not be having this reaction if you didn't so stop lying to yourself."
"He's not asking to get married, he's saying he liked the kiss." Shay explained. "And the blush on your face says you did too."
"Tell him tell him tell him!" Amber chanted at you. You stood and waved them all away.
"I'm not telling him anything. I'm going to get a DRINK," You emphasised as you walked to the kitchen and grabbed the gin. "And I'm gonna put a fucking face mask on and watch Mamma Mia!"
"You have to reply!" Amber pleaded.
"No, he's coming back later and it's already going to be awkward enough with YOUR HELP!" You pointed between the three of them, who were suddenly going very quiet. "I just want to forget about it, and eat chocolate." You huffed, pouring your drink and grabbing the bag of snacks. The girls nodded, finally defeated by your stern words. Words that only sounded blunt because of the rollercoaster of emotions you were feeling.
The girls respected your wishes, and the rest of the evening went by without any further mention of your situation. Just a few looks, especially when your phone buzzed, but it was actually your new boss emailing you a copy of your contract.
A few hours went by before Bucky texted you again, letting you know he was headed back. You quickly pushed the girls out, not wanting them to come face to face with him after what they pulled, and you were clearing up the lounge when he walked through the door.
You looked up at him, and immediately felt your face go hot. He stared at you for a few seconds.
"Hey." He finally said, shutting the door behind him.
"Hi." You muttered, going quickly back to clearing up. You gathered the rubbish and headed over to the bin.
"Sorry about the text." He said from behind you, making your body freeze. God you didn't want to talk about this right now. You swallowed uncomfortably, dropping the rubbish into the bin, and brushed your hands over your legs awkwardly as you turned to face him. He was still standing in the same spot by the door, biting his bottom lip as he looked at you, clearly waiting for your reply.
"It's.." You coughed when your voice came out all crackly and dry. "It's fine, don't worry about it."
"I feel like we should talk about it." He stepped slowly towards you, but your feet were anchored to the floor, so all you could do was watch him. He threw his keys onto the island, and rested his hand on the edge.
"It's okay, no need." You tried again, but he looked at you in a way that you knew he wasn't having any of it.
"We're clearly being a bit weird here. I don't want that for us." You nodded at his words, but you couldn't think of anything to say back to him. "I thought it was good."
