Sanctuary

"What's Terminus?" I ask.
My dad answers me "Used to be a sanctuary, turns out the people there were cannibals. We escaped."
"Was I-"
I am cut off "No, you were with Tyreese. He was in a house while Carol came to help us."
"Why are we going there? It's run down."
"Judith are you even aware of what just happened? The entire dead population is alive and in one group. They're slowly spreading around. But by the time we're there the walkers won't make it that far. I'd say they're spread across the woods."
"How much longer is left of this ride?"
"A few minutes."
Maggie is in the back of the RV looking out the window.
"Maggie?" I walk up to her.
"Yea?"
"I'm sorry-" I start to tear up, "I'm sorry that he died because of me. It was my fault."
"Judith," she gives me a hug. "it wasn't. Come here. Sit down"
I look out the window.
"Is this the world? Is this really how the world is? Running?"
"Afraid so."
We were quiet for a little while. We were entering near a small city.
"I wanna talk to you about what happened in the barn the other day. What I said to you-"
She cuts me off "Judith, I know you were mad. You were mad because Rick got mad at you. He yelled and that was the first time you heard him be that angry. But you weren't there to see how much Carl went through. We were in the prison, a pack of walkers after us. We hid in a generator room. You were coming. She told me to save you, no matter what, this baby has to live. There was no other choice. I had to cut her open but that would mean she wouldn't make it. She didn't. and Carl was there. After that, Rick became angry. Carl wanted to do everything but he wouldn't let him. He was brave. More brave than your father."
A year dropped down her chin and to her neck. She wipes it away.
"We stopped." she smiles. I know it's fake, but she just wants me to think she's okay. "Judith, welcome to Terminus."
