Aspen

I keep my nose in my book the whole bus ride, and not even looking up for a second. My earbuds are in my ears playing non-stop music. Every once in a while the boy next to me will try to talk to me, but realizes I still wasn't going to pay attention to him. I think after a while he just gave up.

My music ends and I remove the bud from my ear. The sudden dead silence surprises me, and I let a gasp escape from my mouth.

"You alright?" I look over and it was the guy who was sitting next to me.

"Um. Um, yeah. I'm fine, just surprised that no ones' talking," I reply.

He looks at me in shock and starts laughing. "You know, you've been on this bus for 3 hours and we're twenty-five minutes away from camp. Nobody has anything to talk about anymore."

I was blushing now. I had no idea how long we had been on the bus. I look at my book on my lap. I had read all but ten pages of my book.

I look out the window and there it is, Camp Peimacee. Let the torture begin.

After I get off the bus, I get shuffled into a cafeteria type thing. They are putting us in cabins. I take out my brochure and look at all of the cabin choices. There is Greenview, which is a hotel type; Middriff, a cabin with air conditioning; then there is Longhouse, a straight up cabin. Perfect.

I pick up my duffel bag and start to walk to the line for Longhouse, but a girl steps in front of me. I try to step out of the way, but she keeps following my every move.

"Can I help you?" I ask looking up at her. It is that one blonde. The girl who I thought wasn't half bad. Guess I was wrong, cause she really ticking me off right now.

"The name's Scarlett. What about you?" She asks a little too cheerfully.

"Scarlett sounds like a name for a person with my type of hair." I could see frustration flash behind her eyes, yet she kept on smiling. "I'm Aspen." I say extending my hand. Instead of taking my offer, she hugs me. What is wrong with this girl?

She lets go of me after for what seem like forever. I pick up my bags again and try to work my way past her again, yet she still won't let me. I eventually give up and drop my bag back on the ground. She is looking around for someone, I'm guessing either a friend or boyfriend. Her head stops scanning and she starts motioning for someone to come. I look back and it is the brunette girl. She looks confused, but comes anyways.

"Ug, she better come or I'm going to go drag her over here." mumbles Scarlett.

The brunette eventually comes over, looking more confused than I've ever been.

"Thanks for coming over. I know you don't know us. I don't even know her. She just came up to me and-"

"I'm Scarlett. Who are you? " Scarlett interrupts.

I'm gonna to kill her.

"Sage," the girl said.

Wow, what an answer. Can't this summer be over already.

Sage and Scarlett both keep talking to each other. I hardly listen to Scarlett, but I can tell she just opened herself up to two complete strangers. I stare at her in shock. What kind of person does that? Then I realize we're explaining who we are. I know exactly what Scarlett's up to now. Regardless, I introduce myself and how I'm a straight A AP/Honors student, and still manage to juggle music above it all.

I look at the cabin lines and Longhouse is closed. Gosh dang-it, this Scarlett girl is doing a real good job at getting on my bad side.

"We're in the same cabin!" I hear her say.

I walk to the Middriff line and sigh.

This is going to be a long summer.
